So here is the thing, I have a 1992 mr2 with the 5fse in it. So i cant find an intake manifold for it and i put cams in it and build the block and head with turbo.... this being said me and the guy that are building this car are not wanting to mess with the whole ems (BS).... So our idea is we are going to put a carburetor on it and just custum fabricate everything.....(note the guy im building with builds drag cars)........ so first off before i custom build this intake and all does anyone know if they might make one for it ..... and also (FACT) building the car with a Carburetor will do away with any thing run electricly. so what do y'all think about that one

I've seen turbo carb kits for V8's before. I've thought of doing this for a V8 swap in an MR2. I'd think this set up would be easier to tune fuel.
How are you going to plug the injector ports on the head? How are you going to address the Throttle Position Sensor issue?
I would think you could fabricate some kind of carburator adapter and still retain the intake manifold.
Interesting project. How about some pics?

The thing is is we are going to get a whole new manifold built just for the carb and for the throttle position sensor wont really be needed because the ecu is going to be eliminated all together. The only thing that has caught my attention now is the distributor and how to work that out with out an ecu, but just a small stepping stone our eyes I'm sure MSD could help us out with some of these things.

Pics are on the way shortly i"ll have step by step pics up. I've got the motor on a stand now in the shop so thats where im at with it and it will be next saturday before I get them taken I'm away doing work this week but soon to come.

does anyone have anymore in put on this or any info on that distributor

The distributor has two sensors in in, one being the cam sensor. You can check with MSD and use one of those as a reference point for ignition. For a carb you may consider a side draft like a weber. This could easily be modded to the factory intake and save a lot in fabrication. Another idea you may consider is individual motorcycle carbs.
On my S block I'm setting up a coil over plug ignition. You may look into that.

Yes the injectors do plug into the head and the rail also bolts to it. You will need to plug the injector holes or leave the injectors in there with the rail to hold them in place. To solve the ignition problem you may have to borrow parts from another engine like a 22r and adapt them to the 5sfe distributor. The 5sfe distributor needs the ECU and the igniter in order to do ignition timing advance. Like you said MSD may have something that will work too. They have some great customer support too.

If you have the skill to build a custom intake manifold then you can eliminate one of the 2 most restrictive parts on the 5sfe, the other being the cams which you already replaced. Did you by chance build it with 3sgte rods and then gap your rings to 3sgte specs? If you did then you can spin the engine to higher RPMs and safely boost higher then you would without. What cams did you go with?

While building a carberated 5sfe is intriguing, there is also the option of running a piggyback which would not be nearly as complicated or expensive as an EMS. People have done as much as 300rwhp with the rev2 electronics, fuel controller, 460cc injectors and a 3sget MAP sensor. A 92 is rev1 though so you would want something with timing control as well as fuel. Just putting it out there. If you want more details on how to do it I would be happy to help.

I would be cool to see someone do a 5S-FT though. :)

What parts would i need from the 22r. and the cams were done by the shop in town. He checked all my clearances on head and block then redone all the shims springs etc to spec with the cams. but as far as everything else it is coming down to the last few weeks of work other that interior and body. The only thing i need to do is be able to figure out what exactly i will need for the distributor and what will bolt right up to it.

also does anyone know where i can find a clutch slave Line the one that came off mine has a split in it but i will probably just make one.

It wouldn't just bolt up but a 22r distributor uses vacuum advance and I imagine if you could figure out a way to mount it to the head and engage the intake cam it would work. It would probably involve cutting and welding parts together or machining new ones. You basically would need to combine the 5sfe distributor with the guts, cap and rotor of the 22r distributor.

You could get a regular rubber clutch line at most automotive stores. If you want something a little nicer then www.twosrus.com or others have braided stainless clutch lines.

Tercel GTS is right it is rare to find someone local that can grind cams and even rarer to find someone who can do it well. If they didn't tell you the new cam duration chances are they just did valve lash adjustment and you are still stock.
