Im In The Process Of Getting A Nice Turbo Kit For My Rolla. I Have Seen Some Turbos On Ebay Such As The Jdm T3/t4 Universal Turbo Kit And Another One Called Jdm T28, But I Hear T28 Is No Good. Can I Get Any Help With Choosing A Turbo Kit?

Do you need help with picking the turbo or a kit? Something you expect to bolt on or do you want to do some fabrication?

From your post - ignore anything that says JDM. Better yet, just avoid all eBay items that have JDM mentioned in them - has nothing to do with the turbo or how it will work on your car.

Before you start any project of this magnitude - start with a budget, didn't mention any in your post. Once you have your budget - double it. Reason being - stuff breaks, you'll have to be able to replace it - as well as get a comprehensive tune. Not all kits are rady out of the box - even one that tout "ready to run" generally only have a base map to start out with. Now you have enough cash outlay to start researching what is out there and planning hte build. one of the better sites to start pricing stuff out is www.monkeywrenchracing.com. They are some of the few vendors that cater to the 1ZZ-FE/2ZZ-GE group.

Once you have a budget and power target - then you can pick a turbo. If you start by picking the turbo first - usually will lead to problems down the line, as you have to build/tailor the system around it.

SO IVE HEARD. THANKS MAN. I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR WEBSITES AND THE BUDGET THING IS ALL THOUGHT ABOUT. I HAVE A FRIEND WHO MESSES WITH THE TURBO KIT AND MAKES MONEY OFF THE RACING BUT HAS GIVEN ME GOOD PIECES OF ADVICE. FIRSTLY "IF IT AINT BROKE, DONT FIX IT" AND "IF ITS NOT GOING TO MAKE YOU MONEY DONT BOTHER" BUT WITH WHAT YOUVE TOLD ME, I DONT THINK IM GOING TO INVEST SO MUCH IN A TURBO. THE COROLLA IS A FUN CAR TO MAKE STYLISH BUT THE TRANNY IS AWESOME, AFTER ALL, MY CAR IS ON 138,xxx MILES SO IM JUST MAKING HER LOOK NICE AND HOPE FOR THE BEST IN FINDING ANYTHING FOR AUDIO AND BODY. THANKS AGAIN BRO

quick question. not doing it but curious. what if you were to replace fuel rails, regulator, fuel pump, injectors, and possibly rods and pistons, would the cheap ebay turbo kit work accordingly? to my knowledge its not as much the kit that will damage your car or blow up, its more the components of the actual engine that will right?

no, its not even the engine internals, it is the lack of proper tuning. when dealing with anything with forced induction, tuning will always be key to keeping it together and making power. this will hold true with all engines really. any engine can be turboed on stock internals, even with high or higher compression, like our 1zz. the key is to be conservitive with the ignition timing and provide a moderate air to fuel ratio. ex:
out of boost afr's shoot for 13.0-13.2
in boost afr's shoot for 11.5-12.0
leave the timing stock out of boost, but once you cross the boost threashold pull .5 degrees timing per psi of boost for the first 4 psi, then 1 degree per psi from there on out.

most of the stock bottom end turbo honda's i have tuned like this have liked it. egts stay nice, no knock. only 1 or 2 didnt like this, i later found out, that the owner was turning up the boost after i finished tuning it..... :headbang:. needless to say their setups dont seem to last. esp on high boost that they are untuned for..

the second problem is most of those cheap ebay kits have had numerous reports of turbo failures, some even resulting in engine damage. usually due to a compressor fin breaking off and going into the engine. its just cheaply made. they dont last at all.
