Whats up guys, Ive ran into my first issue with my truck. Its the air conditoning, Cant get the ac compressor to kick on. At first I thought it was just missing the belt, So I replaced the belt and gave it a shot, Nothing happend. Have no idea how the A/C system works and would relly like to fix it before my 300 mile trip to las vegas this weekend.

What shoud I check? is there a fuse or somthing that could caus it not to work? Let me know as soon as possable please, Driving 6 hours in the 100 degree hete sucks without A/C!:headbang:

It could be a lot of things, low or no freon, a blown fuse, a bad mag clutch, etc.

The fuse for the A/C is behind the glove box, its a yellow on i think. Check that first. To make a long story short i had a mechanic take a look at my A/C before to make sure the compressor was engaging and he ended up sending a straight 12V through the entire A/C system, i left out of there with the A/C stuck on. So i went back and they told me there's nothing they can do and that it was just coincidence that it happened while the guy was testing it. Took it home and checked the fuse and it was blown, put a new one in and it still did the same thing, come to find out he fried my A/C Amplifier with the straight 12V. Had to fork out $80 buck for his stupidity. Better luck to you thought!!!

before you go to a lot of ghost hunting---- check to see if there is any freon in the system/ pressure !!!! ????

(if it is low=== i won't work at all !!!!!!!!!!!)

Compressor won't switch on if there is inadequate refrigerant. If the belt was off and system wasn't run for along time, the refrigerant likely mostly leaked out

1993 and earlier models take R12 refrigerant. '94 and '95 take R134a

If all the refrigerant has leaked out, the system is contaminated with moisture and needs to be vacuumed and the receiver-drier needs to be replaced. Since you apparently bought the truck cold turkey without knowing the maintenance history of the AC system, you could potentially end up throwing hundreds of dollars at the system and still not have it work reliably.

I have a 1994 and it has R12. 1995 was when the federal mandate to use R134a went into effect.

R12, R134, Z28, F16, whatever. Like I said in post #2, if it's low or empty it won't work.
To see if the compressor and clutch work, run 12V directly to the clutch. It's easy to find, it's the only wire going to the compressor. You could try it first with th engine off, and if it engages try it with the engine running. And while running look at the sight glass for bubbles. You could also bypass the low press sw, it's in the ductwork behind the glovebox IIRC.
