Honda Civic Si and Hyundai Elentra N-line are 200 hp, Mazda 3 GT 2.5L is 186hp.

Between 300hp AWD GR Corolla and 169hp SE XSE Corolla, the gap is big. I think the 2.5L engine in Camry is the excellent choice. Very good power yet very good on gas. 202hp Corolla would be very exciting, I am willing to pay extra 5 grand for that.

Now the gas price keeps going up, people will downsizing their cars, the market of Corolla is getting more and more important. Toyota should seriously think about it. And Toyota also should bring back Yaris as well.

I like my 2L - a few little mods and it feels like it should have out of the box.

That being said - i've already seen a throttle body swap from the a25a to the m20a so im sure the intake manifold will follow.

Maybe a Frankenstein build after with the top end of the m20 and the bottom of the 2.5 lol

If you're asking them to bring back an XRS, Toyota mailed it in. I think they figure the XSE grade and Apex trim levels are good enough to capture these buyers that want "lite sport" (regards to L3G1T). Honestly, it never hurt them until they became jealous that there was a Civic Type R now in the US.

A lot of people were asking them to shoehorn the 2ARFE into the last gen Corolla as the last Scion tC had that powertrain and a manual, but it seems Toyota was reluctant to make the last one any sportier since it was designed to be a commuter vehicle above anything else. Heck, even my 10th Gen XRS also had the anemic 2AZ powertrain unlike the first one that had the more potent 2ZZ.

I'll take lite as a compliment considering my beer gut.

Honestly the Apex was not on my radar at all I went to buy an auto corolla then the wife said get a manual for you so it was a 3 month waiting list for a regular SE or 1 month for an apex. Sales tactic won vs my time without a car ratio.

I would have continued my Honda list with the new si but @ 5 grand more and the 1.5 issues I don't regret it.

Something similar, perhaps better, is already on sale in UK with 2.0L hybrid powertrain at 184 HP:
