Hi everyone, my car is a 1991 corolla ae92 gti, UK spec. It has a smallport 4age and c52 tranny.
Recently it has been treated to hks 264 cams, fidanza flywheel, aem cam gears, a light polish and port, nology hotwires and plugs and a race manifold.
The car is very fast indeed, but I would like it to rev out faster through the lower gears.
Now that is why I need help. Is there any other toyota gearbox that can be fitted to the car with shorter gears, and maybe an lsd?

Only the C-series gearboxes mate with the FWD 4A-GE and you could try the 5 speed C56 (witch some times has an LSD fitted, but that was an option) or the 6 speed C160 (that gearbox was mounted with the 4A-GE 20V 'Blacktop' engine)

TRD had a whole set of shorter gears for the C52 specially made for the (competition) C52. But I hope you're sitting down when you get to read the prices

I have revised my own C52 and fitted it with a Quaife ATB helical LSD. TRD has some LSD's for the C52 aswell, but they are pretty hard to get these days (As will the shorter gears, they were discontiued several years back)

Good luck with the search! ;)

in worst case its possible to use the block of a 4A-FE or a 4A-GZE to mate it with an E transmission (waht i'm thinking to do once i get and install a manual transmission

but unfortunately, only the AWD tranny use shorter gears, the FWD and RWD E tranny use LONGER gears

I think the "E" trannys(C50-C52) have the same gear ratios and final drive ratio as the C52s attached to the 4A-FE engines.
The 7A has a taller 1st, and 4A-GE have a lower final drive.

Don't hold me to this, I am going by memory.

Some information here.

The 4A-GE does have a different final drive. But it's longer than the 4A-FE C52's ;)

Final gear 4A-GE C52 gearbox: 4.312
Final gear 4A-FE C52 gearbox: 4.058
