Here is the story from Acton Toyota's Theresa Van Jess. For For ToyotaNation Venza forum folks she will honor last years prices. She says that will be her cost. Yep, her cost.

So in dollars that is a 7year 75000 $545 --- 7 year 100000 $840 ---
8 year 100000 $990 --- 8 year 125000 $1350

These are all Platinum, and no tax. Only for our members here on the Venza forum. Other plan lengths available at the same kind of savings. You can use my name if you wish (Don Docfletcher ).

This is a great opportunity to purchase plans at cost, as she has graciously offered this after I called her to check on the 8yr 125000 price which I misquoted in a earlier post.

I'm sure you will call her first before cashing in ... Right? The prices are good, but there is no way to know what the dealers cost actually is. For us though the dealer cost is academic as we are simply looking for the lowest cost on our extended Toyota service plan.

It's all on the up & up, I got mine from her.

Hey Doc,

So what you're saying here is that she may not actually be giving you the extended plan at her cost?

I actually hope she is making something on it. I will need to basically tell her what I plan on doing (cashing in my plan and buying one from her.) If I can pull this off I will pocket some money, and gain the ability to transfer the plan to another party if I sell the car. I bought the car used and the plans only transfer once.

I haven't called her yet, but I really need to get on it. I guess I am a bit apprehensive that this could somehow be a farce.

No it's not a farce. Those prices I gave you are genuine. Like I said I bought mine last December 8yr 100,000 $990.00. Jerry was about $50.00 more than that.

If you want to know if they are really dealer cost you can certainly ask her. I don't want to put any more words in her mouth. She said her cost, I stand by that. I can't read minds though so I can't swear those contracts are dealer cost. What I can tell you is Jerry won't match $990 on 8 yr 100000 and he won't match 7yr 75000 at $545. Or any of the two other I posted, at least not when I spoke with him in Dec 2011.

Theresa says these prices from her are only for the people on the forum. She did not say how long she would be willing to do it, so if anyone is even remotely interested it would behoove them to at least call and speak with her.

I think I spent enough time on this. It's not like I'm on the payroll. I get nothing out of this other than doing a good deed for interested parties. :chug:

Talked to Theresa today and the Vehicle need to have a US VIN to get the US prices. Too bad as I would have bought a package at that price but not the prices that my dealership wants. Man do the dealerships ever push the crap out of those ECPs. No only means no after you say it 10 times.

Currencies have been at or near par since 2008, so it's not that. I think it's just greed on the dealer's part, much the same as some US dealers try to get top $ for the plans, also. We're just lucky that there are a few dealers in the US that are happy to make a smaller profit many, many times over. :)

Hey Doc,

Do you (by chance) have Theresa's email? I have been thinking about this a lot lately and I think its time to move forward. If you have her email but don't feel comfortable posting it, feel free to PM me anytime. I like breaking the ice with an email so it doesn't feel like a cold call ;)

Thanks for letting us know of this great deal!

Best Regards,
Chris

Edit: I re-read the first post of this thread and couldn't find Theresa's phone number. I'm sure I'm overlooking it, but could you send that also?

I don't believe in extended warranties....for the issuer it's the gift that keeps giving...for the vehicle owner it may give some peace of mind but not much else. I'd much rather pay for a repair if and when it happens....it's been my experience it never happens. ;)

theresa.vonjess@actontoyota.com

When I first spoke with Theresa I can honestly tell you it never felt like a cold call. You will find her very easy to talk with.

Prndl, I would not be so sure of that. My NAV went out while under the 36000 3 yr warranty. Of course it was replaced but, if the car had been out of warranty it would cost $7000 or if you prefer you could go with a after market one.

If you have the sunroof with panoramic and the sunroof breaks to the point of needing replacement get ready to pony up $7000 because they must be changed as one cohesive unit.

Those are a big ticket items, Lots of other things can go wrong, and do.
However, I'm not inclined to broach that topic.

I had a after market warranty once before, on a 1986 Honda Accord. I was putting 52000 miles a year so I bought a 5yr unlimited mileage plan for $550. In the 230,000 plus miles that I owned the car only the alternator went bad. The plan replaced it, without the plan I would have spent $125 myself. So I lost money on that deal.:wtf:

Thank you Doc.

I'll email her today and call her next week.

I was trying to write a response (from my phone) yesterday, but my son grabbed my phone before I was done, and inadvertently submitted the half written message.

Here is what I was going to say in a nutshell. I want to purchase the extended warranty for the obvious reasons (piece of mind, etc..). But also for resale value.

Most (if not all) of us on here are enthusiasts, more than willing to spend money on upgrades to make our cars perform better, make them unique, or more usable than they were in stock trim.

When one comes from this mindset and thinks of the money they spent on upgrades , (which weren't completely necessary), then stumbles across a deal like this, (which at a minimum will add piece of mind), it should be a no brainer.

But, I am also a no warranty advocate on most items, including that $2K thing the dealer pushes on you when you buy the car.

In this case, she is giving us Toyota Financials cost to the dealer. This certainly still makes Toyota Financial money on average, but we're dodging most of the mark-up.

Yeah in Canada we do get screwed. We are at par as mentioned yet the dealers here want $3400 for 7 yrs / 200,000km.

All corporations/big box stores here in Canada will charge us more because we will are willing to pay. Some products are 2.2 times more expensive in their Cdn stores on products manufactured in Canada.
Official word from Home Depot's head offices on this issue:
" We price as per the market"

Enough ranting - I do however love my Venza !:hi:

Cheers

You can always buy from Troy, as he will warranty Canadian VINs at a small premium.

Three years ago, when the topic came up regarding our Canadian brethren being raped by their dealers in terms of ECP pricing, I contacted Toyota Finance who administrates this program to find out if/how Canadian owners could by their ECP in the states for a car bought in Canada..... Answer then - no can do..... But a vehicle bought in the states could be warranted in Canada and receive warranty service.....so if a person had the interest, they could buy a car at a substantially lower purchase price in the states and buy the ECP for a third or more off their local dealer price....... And save thousands of $$$ (CD).

I don't know what the hassles would be in doing that but it may be very worthwhile.

As for selling ECP at cost...... Don't think so....... Action Toyota is providing a superior deal...but the real cost is amazing (I've seen the actual numbers) and they are still making a very nice profit selling contracts vs. holding inventory of a tangible product.

Think about it..... Jerry is dedicated to selling just ECP.....if it were at cost, what would support his salary and fringe? Same goes for Acton Toyota. I could believe the "at cost" claim IF it were a hook to get potential buyers into the dealership but most of us would never likely set foot into that dealership or Midwest Toyota...... They're making money for moving paper - it's just not at the five times markup.....

I have heard that some USA folks traveling through Canada had problems getting the Canadian dealers to honor the VSA contracts issued in the states.

It is my understanding a Canadian purchasing a car in the states and then importing it to Canada will pay a very high tax on the import of the car. Also the logistical part time of the import is somewhat daunting.

Anyone having a problem with a dealer refusing warranty work on a car from the states or visa vsa shoul contact their respective country warranty administrator as it happens.

There is no import tax......there many be local, Provence and GST axes owing and there is a registration fee.....the following link provides an overview of the import process. It can be done with a definite cost savings advance to those willing to undertake the effort.....

To qualify my statement, they got the work done, but only after calling Toyota.

I did notice the wording in the contracts does says coverage in the USA & Canada at all Toyota dealers. Which begs the question why did these people have a problem which delayed them getting the VSA honored.

I want to empathize this was information was passed to me by what I believe to be a reliable source. I have no way to validate the information.

Should I email Theresa if I just got my loan approved on a 2013 Venza XLE? I did get the Platnium Coverage but I got 6 yrs / 120,000 miles. Once I get home I can edit this post or reply depending if anyone has replied yet on how much I am paying for my Platnium Coverage.

#23 ·
There is no rush...... you can cancel the contract anytime within the 3-year/36,000 mile period...and get a full refund - less the cancelation fee ($50.00)...... and likewise you can get the ECP contract within the same period although it's retroactive to the date of vehicle purchase. The ECP turly begins at the end of the 36-month/36,000 mile factory warranty.

Also, someone refered to ECP as bumper-to-bumper. It is not. While many items are covered beyond the 5-yr/60,000 mile facory power train warranty, it does not cover inside trim or seat cover issues.... as an example. So if you have issues with the intrior, get them attended to before the 3-year/36,000 mile factory bumper-to-bumper warranty expires.

Acton Toyoat and Midwest Toyota have very good no haggle prices...they are really the best you'll find....Gerry at midwest beat Acton Toyot, and it appears te roles ahve reversed. you can wait till nearing the end of the factory bumper-to-bumper warranty but anticipate price increases over the next couple of years......there are always price increases.....

Doc,

Here is a quote from your first post -

"So in dollars that is a 7year 75000 $545 --- 7 year 100000 $840 ---
8 year 100000 $990 --- 8 year 125000 $1350 "

I haven't pulled the trigger yet, because my wife is weary. I have a 7/75K now, but I'd like the 8/75 (we only have 8K miles on our originally purchased 3/10).

This does sound like an excellent deal regardless of Teresa making money. It may put money in my pocket

Just got off the phone with Theresa....... first and foremost, she's "good people".... talked with her for awhile nd she's an interesting person...... bought the warranty for my step daughter's new '12 RAV. Theresa gave a really good quote as she's done for the venza folks......

After learning what she does on her off hours, I'd still buy a warranty from her even if she was a couple of $$$ more....... she definitely gives back to the community.

#32 ·
There is info..... You can get a brochure from the dealer that delineates the what's/what's not covered...the window motor or mechanism would be cover per your example......the window/door weather stripping would not......I found this out because I was a little late to get the tsb done but they did it under good will..... In lieu of getting a brochure, I could scan the ECP pkg and post it up.

#33 ·
It sounds like Theresa may no longer be the contact for these ECP's. I am getting quotes from all the usuals. Action Toyotas contact ( scott.doherty@actontoyota.com ) has quoted me $630 for a 7/75K platinum $0 deductible. Jerry with midwest Toyota offered me $594 for a 7/75K platinum $0 deductible.

I haven't heard back from the others yet, but Jerry is looking pretty good. FYI - We own a 2010 sold new around 2/2010, and it has around 10K on it. I ran the numbers, and a 7/75K should be fine. We'll likely sell it before then anyway :)

#34 ·
I went with Jerry Johnson jerryj@MidwestSuperstore.com 800-530-5789 7/75K platinum for $594. I didn't wait for all of the quotes to come in. He made it extremely easy and was easy to talk to so I pulled the trigger.

I am selling back my original 7/75K platinum for $1024!

When I spoke with toyota financial, I told them what I was up to, and they said it was a no brainer. My biggest hurdle was worrying about it not being the same warranty, but it is! I bought my car used, but the original owner paid right around $2K for this warranty. I learned a lot through this experience. I am happy as a pig in ...

Best Regards,
Chris
