The light sensor works if the headlights come on when you cover the sensor. Reset the system to factory settings and see if that helps.

There is supposed to be a delay before turning on the lights to keep from turning them on and off when driving under trees, underpasses etc. Sounds like you light sensor is working fine but the screen isn't doing what it's supposed to. Take it to the dealer, it probably needs the software updated.
