anybody in SoCal wanna help w/ AAL install?

I am either debating tackling this myself or with somebody or paying a shop to install them. Any recommendations?

Do it yourself, save some money, and learn a thing or two about your truck while you're at it.


It's fairly easy and once you get the one side, the other goes quick.


A helpful hint is use a ratchet strap, I couldn't get the axle low enough to insert the new centering pin, on the driver side because of the brake lines, so I just ratcheted up the leafs and stuck it in there. Watch your fingers when you let em down though!

It's pretty simple and shouldn't take you more than an afternoon.

I am in San Diego and would probably be more available on Saturday since Sunday is Easter. I would probably dive into myself but I don't have jackstands etc. and would rather to have a helping hand around that knows what they are doing. Well if anybody would like to help out on Saturday I can either meet at your place or have stuff brought to my house either or. I have some tools but no jack stands, floor jack, or heavy stuff like that. Thanks for everyone that is offering by the way I appreciate it!

I remember I had my old forum (audiworld) help me install my lowering springs that was a funfilled weekend lol.

Really easy!

Ideal is to have 3 jack stands and a floor jack. And a pair of C-Clamps.

But a pair of jack stands and a floor jack with your stock bottle jack, and a pair of C-Clamps will do!

Jack up your truck and place it on jack stands. Remove the rear wheels. Remove your rear shocks also!
Use the floor jack to support the rear end and remove your U-Bolts.
Slowly lower the floor jack until the rear end is clear of the springs. Remember to support the front of the third member with the bottle jack. (It tends to want to tilt forward)

Use the C-Clamps to hold the springs together while you remove the center bolt from the spring pack.

Slowly back off the C-Clamps until the spring pack is apart. Insert the AAL into the pack (long end towards the rear, I think??? Not sure it's been a while:D)
use a long screw driver to line up all the springs. (through the center hole while you tighten the clamps)
Then use the C-Clamps to compress the pack back together. Once the springs are clamped. install the new center bolt.
Remove the C-Clamp, cut the bolt to length and reinstall the rear end!

You may or may not be done with this by now but what everyone has said is exactly right. My 2 cents is......DO NOT USE THE NEW LEAF SPRING BOLT AND NUT TO PULL THE AAL'S TOGETHER! I learned this the hard way! Stripped it right out. Use C clamps or even two pipe wrenches. Oh and the long side of the leaf goes towards the rear....Good luck to you!

just curious.... what's the advantage to removing the load spring, i can only assume it "loosens" up the rear end, doesn't keep it as stiff for articulation?

On second thought, i thought the load spring was only used for when you're carrying heavy loads, it assists in the heavier end loads. So maybe i'm wrong??
