Maybe I'm alone here but backing a near 20ft truck out of a tight lot takes a little bit of effort when going straight takes minimal effort. I like taking the path of least resistance :D.

Here's a diagram of what I will do to the standard 6-8" curb.

It just seems commonsensical... But I do sometimes get some weird looks

Edit: the guy in the red car was waiting to take my spot. My passenger said they gave me a funny look heh.

Good rendering. LOL

I only drive over curbs when absolutely necessary. Like when I'm trying to leave my parking lot to get to work and there is a dump truck at the dumpsters blocking my access to get out. So I'll drive up and over the grassy knoll and over the curb so I'm not late.

Or when I'm driving in snow and the city doesn't plow the roads so it causes deep ruts, then when you make a lane change the truck hops and spins out and I'm in the lane closest to the median with all the shrubs and trees and sprinkler heads I'll usually just drive over it so I dont cause a traffic back up.

Or when I go to the local hangout spot and all the guys with there Hondas and Evos and STi's back into the stall against the curb, I'll just come in from the other lane and drive over the median and curb to show them up.

That's the kind of thing I did when I first got my license and I was driving my Ford F-150. It's not to say that I don't now when the need arises. The Tacoma parks like a dream compared to that Ford, though, which was much wider and had the worst turning radius of anything I've ever driven except possibly the big box trucks I used to drive at work. It's a lot easier to avoid doing that now.

Nice diagram, by the way.

great now you got me doodling at work too. So is this what you would do if you were parked in between cars? hehehe

To end the story, red car and green car get the spots. Driver A & Driver B face it off in the parking lot ... cops show up!

HAHAHA... no that path = more resistance.

 I did that last year in my Tundra when some dude I work with blocked me in. Only problem is I ran over a lawn sprinkler main (2" PVC), the ground was real soft and I broke the damn pipe clean off!

Being the Master Plumber I had to fix the damn line the next day...this time its a lot deeper :smokin:

I hate tight parking lots, I usually just back into the spots, so much easier. I've found quite a few where I don't have enough room to backup out of the spot before I'm either running into the car parked across and behind me, or nailing the car next to me because I was watching the cars behind me and I turned too early.

Moral of the story, I just back into most spots, plus its easier to get out of them.

Edit, What curbs? I don't even feel them anymore when I run over them with my new 33's! :)

good lord. it's not hard to get in or out of spots.

maybe i just understand turning angles better than some.

No it's not hard, but it's not as fun either.

I'm sure I'll still do shi† like this when I'm 60 for the chuckle...

for the record the double cab long bed is 18.4ft while the access cab is 17.3ft and the reg cab is 15.8ft.

next time just say you like to drive over the curb because you are a badass, because if you can't handle a tacoma's turning radius, then you shouldn't be driving one.

just saying

lol.

Last I checked 18.4ft is near 20ft. What if I had my tailgate down?

Thank's for the stats though. I'm going to sleep like a baby tonight

Hey you guys keep driving over those curbs, you'll keep us landscapers in business. :naughty: Honestly though I have driven over one curb since I've had the Taco. Some "wannabe" big shot that owns the local Applebee's blocked me in, I asked him to move 3 times and waited for 25 min. but he was too busy talking to some other "wannabe" big shots in the parking lot. So I hopped the curb and drove through the landscaping doing a burn out...throwing every last piece of mulch out of the bed that I could. If you knew the guy, you would have done the same.

no comments about the video? that shit was hilarious!! I especially liked the neon that bounced three times off the gate thing.

Ill drive up onto a median if Im trying to catch a green left turn light and the lane is open but blocked by traffic going straight but stopped at a red. If there's enough room for a motorcycle there's enough room for a third of my truck.

i went to a ball game last night and was put into a tiny little spot. about a foot on either side and maybe 8-10 of alley in front of me before anouther car.

i was thinking how do i get out of this tiny spot without waiting for the other people to show up.

then i remembmered this thread.

i cranked my wheel to the left (since i needed to turn left), put the truck in first and dropped the clutch.

being that the Tacoma is a super vehilcle that it is, i pivoted off the little wimpy car to my left and shot out of there look nobody's business without narry a scratch to my paint. the other car ended up exploding and shooting 50 ft into the air. i'm not sure where it landed since i was long gone by then.

Yes, I have driven over a few curbs, mostly by accident, since I sold my old 83 Toyota pickup and replaced it with an 08 Tacoma Ext. cab.

Turns out it's a little longer than the old truck, which I drove for a long time, so I guess I was used to the shorter wheelbase. Or maybe I have just started driving like a woman.

I rarely drive over curbs. Usually I just back into spots (drove an ambulance for 8 years, that's all we did).

Though a few years back I did drive over the sidewalk and landscaping of a motel. There was a movie theater and motel that had side-by-side driveways and I chose poorly. But that wasn't in my Taco.
