Anyone else have paint problems?

I have a 2015 Corolla S that I got last year with only 17,000 miles. I have noticed that there are several places around the trunk and hood where the paint has started to peel. Has this happened to anyone else? What is the best way to stop this from spreading?

Thanks for your time.

was the car in an accident or have known body work done to it? looks to me like shoddy paint/body work. if they did not prep the surface correctly or use good paint then it won't stick

No accidents no theft

The top edge of the fender has missing paint too. Fender is making some contact with the edge of the hood when opened or closed.

If it's not known to you of accident history, the fender or hood is likely out of alignment.

Does the anti theft label match your corolla's vin tag?

Is it missing?
I have checked the VIN #'s and have a pretty thorough Carfax report. I'm pretty sure that it has something to do with the colors as others have mentioned. Knowing this makes me feel somewhat better.

Does anyone know if there is a way to slow this down? Like a paint or something I could spray over the chipping areas to stop it from spreading?

No problem whatsoever on my 2014 Corolla S but mine is slate gray. I have no idea if there's a correlation but, you're not the first to report paint problems on a deep blue car. I don't remember if it was here on toyotanation forum or somewhere else, but recently there was a similar post about peeling paint on a blue Corolla.

Also, I had paint peeling all over the place on my old 2013 Kia Rio and it was almost exactly the same shade of blue. I bought that Kia brand new and it had never been involved in an accident. I don't know, maybe I'm crazy but I'm starting to think blue isn't a reliable option for car paint.

I have that same wear pattern on the top edge of the fender, only about 2" long at the very back. It's the same on both sides. No accidents and I bought it new, panels appear to be fitted properly, there are even gaps between the hood and fender on both sides. It's just movement of the hood.

I noticed it when I was installing my gas hood struts... I was hoping that the struts would help to stabilize the hood, and I haven't noticed it getting any worse, but I don't know that the struts would have prevented it.

I would call Toyota customer service to find out if there's an open tsb for the paint. I know on the 9th gen Corolla with the dark blue would degrade quicker compared to other colors.

I tried googling tsb's, and didn't find one.

I just bought a CPO corolla S in crush blue and there's these 2 paint chips in the front that are flaking really badly. Going to take it to the dealer on monday an hopefully they do more than touch up paint to at least stop the paint from chipping away more than it already has, ill keep y'all updated.

Update: Dealer had a paint guy come in and respray my bumper. other than overspray coating my back windows from a lack of prep work they ended up blending the paint pretty well . Hopefully this paint does a better job adhering to the bumper.

I have the 2015 Rav 4 with the blue crish. The paint started chipping off inside the door jam. When I had my Rav in for scheduled maintenance at the Toyota dealership where I brought it the Service Department was absolutely no help. The Service Rep. said they do not handle this. He said if I wanted after my Rav was serviced I could go across the street to the body shop. This is not what I expected to hear regarding a vehicle with 40K miles. I purchased Toyota Paint through Amazon and fixed it myself. It worries me that this may starting happening all over the Rav. I am a senior and thought this was to be my retirement vehicle.

My 2013 avalon has been peeling and chipping every time a bug hits it and is starting to look aweful, i hope i get a fix soon! Now our new toyota tundra 2019 in Cavalry blue is having terrible crackle problems on the roof, am just waiting for them to get back to me or tell of a new recall! Why cant they get their paint right!?

I have a 2014 Rav-4 in the same blue color and have taken very good care of it! No body work has been done. It is peeling along the driver side front panel, the front bumper, and in the doors to the point where the metal is starting to show. I called the customer care line and they took it down as a complaint and straight up were like "it's not recalled, but get it fixed and if it ever is recalled, we can work on getting you some reimbursement". I took it to a body shop and they referred me to a local paint shop that people love. The guy told me that since it was all over, I would eventually just need the whole thing re painted! That's thousands of dollars ...so he told me to go to my local Toyota dealership and talk to someone he had connections with. After calling and calling and literally just showing up one day to be like "I need to talk to someone" they finally called me back and said that there isn't anything they can do and that I need to call customer care again. Now I've been on hold with them for 30 minutes. So, any advice is appreciated at this point.

Make sure you call the customer care line to file your complaint so they will turn this into a recall!

I haven't had any paint issues with my 4 Toyotas that I bought new since 2009.

2009 Corolla S - Classic Silver Metallic
2010 Prius - Blizzard Pearl
2017 Corolla iM - Classic Silver Metallic
2017 Rav4 XLE - Charcoal Grey Metallic

Everyone has a full clear bra right after I bought it brand new.

earlier in this thread i mentioned how toyota brought in a guy to respray my bumper because of excessive paint chipping, that was in june earlier this year. Honestly i would have preferred paint chipping and good clear coat as opposed to my whole bumper looking like it needs chapstick. The whole bumper is screwed, honestly im like 90% sure im out on my ass for repainting it, and the dealership wont try to do this again for free. Ive just resorted to wiping it down with wax and hoping for the best, but its been screwed from the start. Orange peel galore and they just clearcoated on old paint so there wasnt even hope for it to bond correctly.

also, all of this was from using coin operated car wash bays. I didnt know what was causing it to peel at first, since I dont know too much about automotive paint care but yeah, this part is the worst but on each corner in front of each wheel is starting to lift too, so it definitely needs to be sanded down to bare plastic and redone.

The best thing to do is to always use quality car car products and wash by hand or use a touchless foam canon at home. If you want paint to look new when you buy a new car, always have a complete clear bra installed on the front of the car. I did this on my 2009 Corolla, my wife's 2010 Prius, 2017 Corolla iM, and 2017 RAV4 and the all still look brand new. I could peel off the clear bra if I was selling one and it would look perfect, although leaving it on for the new owner adds value.

If I were you I would just have a body shop repaint the bumper, wait 30 days for it to cure and then have a clear bra installed and you will never worry about this issue again. And do the same thing on any new car you buy in the future.

Hello,

Let's all get together and file a class action suit against Toyota for the defective blue crush paint as the other Toyota owners did with the different color paint and they got their cars fixed. This is deliberate by Toyota to ignore our complaints about their defective workmanship knowing that the paint is defective and this would be the fastest and most hopeful way to get resolution. Please contact me as I am starting to pursue this situation legally. My email is toyotacorolla2016sucks@gmail.com (Don't mind my email address it is indeed a valid email) I created one just for this situation. Any Toyota customer with defective blue crush paint should contact Toyota corporation ASAP +1-800-331-4331 and file a complaint and get a complaint number. The more complaints we have the better chance of winning. I look forward to hearing from all of you as soon as possible so that we can get this lawsuit going and hopefully get our cars painted. Shoot me an email.

Eli

That's a weird place to see a paint issue and it doesn't look like the door is misaligned and dragging. If it was me I would prep it and just paint it myself. You can get paint store that will mix your factory color for you in a spray can. I've done it before when I was installing my turbo on my 2009 Corolla. I had to trip a little metal for the intercooler pipe and where the bare metal was I sprayed it with some primer and then the color matched paint and it worked great.

I have a 2015 RAV4 24K blue crush metallic paint and the paint is a mess. The roof bubbling. peeling and all chipping off. The size of a tennis ball now. All the door jams have paint gone. It's even under the hood and also up at the top of the hood in the edges. It is a mess! I have NEVER seem anything like this in my life. Had it at Toyota and they said it's just like what has been happening to the white cars that they fix but they don't want to fix the blue cars!

My white car has problems but not enough for toyota to fix it. Some rust here and here, easy chipping. its easier to work on the paint if focusing on one part at a time, but it is time consuming, and I wouldnt have time now with a full time job. I used to work about 8 to 10 hours a week, I'd actually enjoy spending 2-3 days painting haha....

Hi Everyone with blue chipped paint on a Corolla: PLEASE call Toyota Corporate 1-800-331-4331 and start a case. As said above, the more people to make a case the better chance we have to get it fixed. Mine went all the way to getting an estimate (less than 3k at this time but getting worse) and they are still refusing to fix it because they don't have "enough evidence that this is a problem with this paint color."
