Getting an ECM communications error and car won't start. Checked all the wires and didn't find anything wrong. When I put the car to the ON position the check engine light doesn't come on at all.

It's a 2013 SE 2.5L. Non-hybrid
recently I installed LEDs in the license plate and fog lights. Nothing that would touch the ECM.

Yes, if the check engine light doesn't illuminate during the bulb check sequence when you first switch the key to ON...it usually means the ECM isn't coming on. It may not be getting power or ground or It may not be getting the input signal to switch on. No ECM...no spark, no injectors...no start.

All wiring and fuses checked out, still no ecm communication. Got an ecm from a rav4 and communication works now. So it's the ecm that's stopped working for sure. Getting the car towed to Toyota to have it replaced. They'll still need to go thru all the trouble shooting I guess.

That is odd that an ecm would just seize on its own.

I have seen 2 cases similar( I am a master tech at a toyota dealership) I have seen an accident where the ecm was physically hit and another were a body weld went through the charcoal canister wire.

Make sure nothing aftermarket is obviously installed because toyota has a new procedure to order ecms even if you are paying for it. You have to verify that there's nothing wrong with the wiring for them to release the new ecm.

Well I'm glad to be here too. Nice community.

I would love to help out with whatever I can help with.

Greatavalon, I was not attacking your comment , I just didn't know how people would react. I actually recently bought a set of hids for my camry from xenondepot based on your awesome review, thank you!

Definitely glad you're here. Your help is greatly appreciated!!

They just started looking at the car now half an hour ago so let's hope for the best.

The shop foreman is handling it and said he came across a Corolla some months back with the same issue. No reason for it the car just wouldn't start all of a sudden.

Reading up online lots of people noticed tranny issues with gear switching not being smooth etc.
