Anyone Having Remote Start Issues?

My sister bought a 2021 Toyota Venza Limited with the technology package and pano moon roof in titanium glow. Her remote start is not working. She has taken it to the dealership and they are stumped. Now they are thinking it might need a possible software upgrade, but they really have no clue.
I also bought a 2021 Venza Limited with the technology package and pano moon roof in blizzard pearl, but my remote start works just fine.
However, when my sister or I use the Toyota app to “lock the doors” the app tells us that our Toyota “Highlander” doors have been locked. Not sure why it says the car is a highlander....
Just curious if anyone else has had issues with their remote start and if so, what the fix was. Her remote start does not work from the key fob or the app.

I was wondering if Remote Connect on the '21 Venza might be problematic, it's been a real PITA for '20 and '21 Rav4 owners, worked fine on '19s after a few version updates, works fine on my '21 Venza too. Wrong vehicle (Highlander) being reported has happened to me a few times with both my '19 Rav4 and the '21 Venza, but it still works fine. There are a couple DCM related TSBs for the Rav4, I hoped Toyota fixed the problem before the Venza was released, but maybe not, unfortunately.

Remote start, door locks, parked location, last 10 trip maps, etc... all work for me in the app. I was also seeing the "Highlander" status message until a month or so ago when the app was updated.

Does the status info in the app work for your sister (odometer, DTE, door and window status, etc...)?

If you "decline" or waive connected services, then remote start won't work. If you "opt out" of the driver's score then some of the other app features stop working as well.

okay - so my sister’s car is apparently 1 of 3 cars in the nation that Toyota knows of with the remote start issue.

From service-

our local engineer found 2 cases in the country where this has happened. 1 was fixed with the account rebuild we are currently doing and 1 was fixed by discharging the DCM and I started that process this morning. Just wanted to update you we are still trying.

Maybe one of three 2021 Venzas with this problem, but there have been lots of Rav4s that had issues getting remote start to work. The problem is the programming varies by model, trim, and build date, so one could have the issue and the next off the line is fine.

So the good news is my sister’s car got fixed last Thursday. The bad news is it took forever for them to do it. They had to bring an engineer out to fix it. There were a few problems - For whatever reason, Toyota had Her car registered as a Toyota Highlander in the USA and in Japan and they had to replace the DCM.

Toyota said her car was 1 of 3 that they were aware of with remote start issues. They have fixed all 3. Looks like you are #4....

She bought the car from a dealership that was two hours away. The local dealership is about 30 minutes away. The local dealership fixed the car, but they had to get help from an engineer who came from a bigger city. The local dealership gave her a hoopty prius to use for the month it took them to figure out what was wrong and fix it.

When my sister purchased her car she paid $700 for the platinum plan extended warranty with a zero deductible for 7 years/75k miles. When they resolved the issue with her car she got the dealership where she purchased the car to comp her for the 8 year/100k platinum plan with a zero deductible that normally costs $1295

Oh wow! Thats really good. I didnt get extended warranty

Only reason she originally purchased the extended warranty is because it is the first year the Venza is back. Never know about the bugs and the remote start is a prime example of the bugs they havent fixed. When I purchased my Venza I told the dealership about the extended warranty my sister got and they laughed me out the door saying they couldnt sell me what she got. Said the best they could do was a 1200 dollar plan with a 250 deductible. I later brought it up to the sales manager. Apparently he had a chat with the finance guy and he was magically able to sell me the 8 year/100k platinum plan with zero deductible for 1295. And he sold my mom the same one for her 2021 prius which was purchased at a different dealership.😂

Start by calling Toyota CS, they've fixed app problems for me in the past on my previous Toyota, haven't had any problems with the Venza. Be aware the service dept won't perform TSB work just because you ask them, the vehicle must have the problem covered by the TSB, having a copy of the TSB points them in the right direction though.

Hi, I am wondering if the remote start with Fob is supposed to work in Canada as well? At least I for one have not had any success starting with the Fob following instructions on a few you tube videos.
i have a 2021 Venza Limited, all tech, connected services (one year). are there other owners in Canada that confirm or deny that your Venza has or doesn't have this feature? Thanks

My 2021 app stopped working also. They upgraded it, and now it wont take the password. Toyota has no idea how to fix it. I spent the whole day on the phone with them. The dealer told me to CALL ROAD SERVICE. Do you believe that? The app is plain and simple junk.

Just for the record, the app works fine for me, has for the last 9 months anyway, the only issue I've ever had is we have a poor cell signal, always have, sometimes communication to the vehicle fails, but usually works on the 2nd attempt, used it yesterday , worked on the 2nd try, temp was 111º, a new record for the area.

STARTING in 2023..Toyota models 2018 and newer remote starter in Toyota premium audio packages will have to subscribe to a yearly fee to use your remote fobs, $8month or $72 yr subscription. And everything on that package deal will be rolled into a subscription based service. This just came out this month, Toyota and other vehicles manufacturers will start charging features. Your system probably faced a glitch in it and started earlier an disabled it. Amazon stopped selling Toyota 2018 hybrid remote starters this year to what a coincidence.

Actually it was local radio channel, Anyone with Toyota model years 2018 with remote start with fob with package with enhanced audio features. Toyota will be first manufacturers to start subscription base services of $8 month or a yearly fee. To be able to use your enhanced radio package thingies. And hinting more things on your enhanced features could be turned into a subscription service features. It's okay lol I bought mine off Amazon and not worrying about it. It too works via fob but not part of a Toyota package. Kind of a running joke now to start your 2018 Toyotas with fobs going to cost you in fees like obamacare, free Healthcare. Healthcare is now a fee for your free healthcare. Could Toyota and other manufacturers do it, sure they can, I need a fob to start my car, so whats stopping Toyota to say limit of 100 starts for $8 a month then pay per start after that. So yah we're concerned over that news report. What if it starts and we're parked outside of reception areas and its 20 degrees and falling up in the mountains. Again not my concern because I use a off brand market fob remote start for raves hybrid. I do have Sirius radio but I don't subscribe to it, I don't live in my car lol. Hoping I don't have that package deal their reference. Where can we look to see if we're unwittingly have it?
