I'm trying to sell my mom's car but I have no idea what makes the car so special. It seems like a regular XLE to me except with a Collector's Edition badge. Anyone care to enlighten me on this?

Here's the link to the for sale ad:

Did you buy the car new or did you move to Daly City from another state? It looks like something that Gulf States Toyota would sell. The only thing that looks special is the two tone paint job. Those are not common.

In 2001, there was a Gallery Edition that was an official Toyota model, which had 2 tone paint and unique rims and a couple other things.

Interesting. The car was bought new from the dealership. Do you think they'd be able to tell us what's special about the car? My mom was told the car is like 1 out of 10 cars in production.
Absolute nonsense. Maybe 1 of 10 cars that specific dealership was allocated. The only thing "special" on those vehicles was the two tone paint and the emblems. They were only "limited" to however many they could sell . Jon. p.s. if it was Gulf State car it would have a fake convertible top on it, they truly configure some horrid cars.

actually i i owned one it was different the front tires are smaller then the back ones. the brakes are bigger and its imported from japan. made so much better than the original ones. and it was get up and go the engine was made to last and it sure did. the car had a handling of no other.

Thanks for clarifying that. I forgot to say the dealership also told her the car is like a Lexus. LOL
The ES300 is basically a Camry with different sheet metal.

A fully loaded Camry XLE V6, IIRC, cost around the same as a base model ES300 at the time and I think the XLE would be equipped slightly better. Major difference was that the ES300 had VVTi which added about 20 HP.

2001 Camry Collector's Edition

I just bought a low mileage Collector's Edition and I have the original dealer's sticker for my unit. Mine is described as a Camry LE V6 with the "Collector's Edition" (option "ZE") added for an additional (MSRP) charge of $4,122. It included the following:
16" Alloy Wheels W/P205/60R16 Tires, Lthr wrap steer wheel, JBL 3-in-1 w/In-Dash CD Chngr & 8 Spkrs, Auto Climate Cntrl, Keyless Entry, Chrm Tip Exhst, Unique Lthr Pwr Drvr Seat, Wood Trim Dash, Two-Tone Ext Point, Daytime Running Lights, Special Badges, Logo and Floor Mats, Auto Dimmng Mirror."
I believe that the interior color was limited to a (medium) oak as well...

In my region, The 01's that had the two-tone where labled as "Gallery Edition"

speaking of "special edition" camrys, ive spotted several gen 3's that have 2 tone paint. there was one on sale on ebay. it was a coupe with a paint job similar to a green es300. ive also seen a white with beige gen 3 with gold emblems and unique oem rims.

i want one.

The only thing these 'special' or collectors/gallery editions in the US,

Or single tone, no auto dim rear mirror Gold editions in Canada were the trim options which would make it almost par with a Lexus ES. Short the dual throttle VVTi and heated leather seats.

I own a generation 3 Toyota Camry Collectors Edition (1996). I know most of these have been described already but the differences I put together are based on XLE vs LE collector's edition:

XLE:
Standard Paint/Trim (spoiler/pinstripe optional)
Collectors:
Lexus "Pearl White" on Grey two-toned paint (spoiler/gold-pinstripe optional)

XLE:
Moonroof optional
Collectors:
Moonroof standard

XLE:
Manual adjusted driver and passenger seats
Collectors:
Power 6-way driver's seat and manual passenger's seat

XLE:
Optional alloy wheels (16")
Collectors:
Standard OZ 14 spoke alloy wheels (16")

XLE:
Cassette & Radio
Collectors:
Cassette / Radio / 1-Disc CD player

XLE:
Leather Optional (*Note leather is fake)
Colelctors:
Leather Standard (*Still fake leather)

XLE:
Plain Black-Dash
Collectors:
Faux-Wood grain pannels on dash and door buttons

XLE:
Improved Sport-Tuned Suspension
Collectors:
Standard LE Suspension

Other Collector Edition Features:
Pannel under the hood to reduce engine noise
Leather trimmed door pannels (& possible sound reduction)
Dual chrome tipped exhaust

If I had any pictures of my camry online, I would make a link to them... but alas I do not have any photos. But it sort of looks like a mix between a Lexus LS400 and ES300 with the pearl white paint job w/grey as the 2nd tone. It has really nice alloy wheels from the lexus brand (but with the toyota logo over the lug nuts). And it has held up really well. It's still my daily commuter with over 260,000 miles! They should sell the plans to this car to GM/Chrysler and have them make it, I'd totally buy another one!

1996 XLE V6:
XLE:
Manual adjusted driver and passenger seats
Collectors:
Power 6-way driver's seat and manual passenger's seat

XLE has standard 7-way power seat, optional pass power

XLE:
Optional alloy wheels (16")
Collectors:
Standard OZ 14 spoke alloy wheels (16")

Gen 3 NEVER had 16" rims. XLE V6 had standard 15" alloys, and XLE I4 had standard 14" alloys. The Collectors Edition had standard 15" alloys.

XLE:
Leather Optional (*Note leather is fake)
Colelctors:
Leather Standard (*Still fake leather)

The center of the seats are leatcher, the rest is not.

XLE:
Plain Black-Dash
Collectors:
Faux-Wood grain pannels on dash and door buttons

Woodgrain was optional on all trims, even the DX.

XLE:
Improved Sport-Tuned Suspension
Collectors:
Standard LE Suspension

XLE had the same suspension as the LE. Only the SE had a sport tuned suspension with tighter steering.

Other Collector Edition Features:
Pannel under the hood to reduce engine noise
Leather trimmed door pannels (& possible sound reduction)
Dual chrome tipped exhaust

Same for the other models. The panel under the hood is a fire retardent.

i have no idea what reigion spawned these camrys, but ive seen a few around here in MD, which is the central atlantic reigon

theyre simply XLE V6 models loaded to the gills with all options plus the two tone paint, a chrome exhaust tip and special badging...the ones ive seen all had wood trim, but i dont know if that came with the collectors edition or if someone added it as an option

well i just was researching it and found this. that car was different. i dont know how to explain it, but the car went around turns better the tires were bigger in the back then the front i dont know why, and the brakes were different had to make sure they were for the vehicle or they wouldnt fit right. it also had a engine that was strongly made. im not just saying it because i owned it. but that thing was different. here is an a pic of it. its in black and white but it was the collector edition two toned gold and silver. it had a different exhaust manifold and system on it as well. i know it was a camry but they made it different be as it was imported from japan lol.
