What you need:
1) A Windows Computer (Or a Windows VM)
2) 4~8GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive, good quality!!
3) The correct PDF and ZIP for your car.

NOTE:
The Flash Drive MUST be formatted on a Windows computer. Linux/Mac will NOT work.
Format the drive as FAT32 (I recommend a slow format, to be safe)
Extract the .ZIP to your flash drive and very carefully follow the steps in the PDF

Good Luck!

Well.................

So, if your update fails and can't be recovered, then yes. You will have to pay for the replacement, but you may be able to argue that you tried one of the update officially posted online.

If your update goes perfectly, or even if it failed because of a bad file on the usb / defective usb, and CarPlay is installed and running, then no, you shouldn't have any issues. The owner is legally permitted to update the system software in the car, provided you have a TechInfo subscription with access to the files.

Sorry noob question, but I went to my dealer in Bellevue, WA yesterday, to see if i can get carplay update done. They stated that they can only do the Pioneer or Panasonic head units only. I have the 2018 Sienna Limited Premium with JBL headunit/Navi. I'm not sure if its was a load of crock as initially the service person didn't even know about the update. I'm trying to find if this claim legit or they probably behind on technical info. From the other tread in the Camry forum, it seems some people got the JBL premuim w/ Navi to work, but unsure if its the same unit. Just wondering if someone can shed light on this. I'm hoping the guy just didn't know what he's talking about.

Many owners don't realize that you can self-serve on Multimedia updates if you just create an account on the Toyota Owners Site: Using your VIN, Toyota will direct you to the correct file for your vehicle, and if it goes bad, you have an official source to point to.

The 3rd party information provided above is terrific, and I applaud those that posted it. Just providing another route for helping you get it right!

Hi i recently downloaded your file and it went great. But question is. I tried updating my audio software got it from toyota website itself. I see that it wont let me update anymore thru usb. Is this because of your software that i recently installed in my 2018 camry se car?

Looking for some advice. I have a 2018 Sienna XLE with the Panasonic unit (DCU: 17TDT2NA-DA00 | MEU 17TMT2NA-DA00).

I downloaded the correct files and followed all the directions however near the end of the installation I got the red screen that said the update failed. I then shut off the car to start over following the directions from the .pdf. I immediately reinstalled the files onto a USB and tired again...but now when I start the car after the Toyota warm up screen I get the following on the right side of the display:

000. DCU Start Mode: programming mode
001. MEU current operation: usb detect
002. DCU current operation: usb detect.

On the left side of the display it has the 'Preparing new software.' message. I let the car sit for 45 minutes ON but the isntall goes no where. Is the head unit now bricked or is there anyway to recover?
