Auto Stop/Start - How I disabled it on HighLander 2022

In my opinion Auto Stop/Start feature is useless, puts load on starter and battery, also adds risks of accidents but delaying throttle by 0.5 sec when you need to get away from intersection for example.
But this post is not for debate.. this is just sharing how I disabled it.

First I tried a few devices from amazon, but they had a different connector, not fitting 2022. So I had to return the products.

And later I found a device for 4th gen (specifically for 2022) on aliexpress. It's not cheap, paid around 40 CAD.

I am not affiliated with the seller of the product. I am just sharing my installation experience.

Note:
  • start car => auto stop-start was disabled
  • stop vehicle & start right away => auto stop-start will be enabled. That would look like the device doesn't function. This is not true. It is working.
This is because the car / device needs to be shutdown for at least 20 sec, and then it will work on next start.

Disclaimer: use this device at your own risk. There is a chance it could void the warranty. See the post below from funman1, he claimed that a similar product could burn the ECU. Is this truth or lie - don't know.

UPDATE (2023-12-06): after 1 year of usage - the device still running well, no issues.

This is the original work of @funman1 as described by a moderator of this form so you can get help after your purchase... Do not try other imitation brands.
Here is the link where you can get the part Disable Toyota Automatic Stop Start Permanently Highlander 2020+ Model HL4 | eBay
The price of that product is ridiculous, way too much overpriced: 60 USD + 20 USD shipping to Canada.
The design is totally diferent from the aliexpress product.
The aliexpress product is enclosed in plastic and doesn't require additional power wiring from fuse box.

It's very clear that many people don't know how to break properly without enabling auto stop-start that it's becoming clear more and more that Highlanders aren't for them. I was able to stop my 2020 Highlander Platinum at any speed safely without triggering the auto stop-start, the same goes for me 2022 and future vechiles.

I wouldn't encourage anyone to change their habits with the brake pedal just to avoid triggering the auto-stop. Stopping the car safely and completely is much more important than whether or not the engine shuts off to reduce emissions. Tech should help us, not cause new problems or make us question how to do basic things such as stepping on the brake.

One problem One Solution:::: It's definitely not a function for everyone. But it takes just a second to turn it off manually. Or just add the device that automatically turns it off for you. The solution is to buy the device and install it for those who need it.

I have been using the @funman1 device since 2019 on my Highlander and it has never failed. It was specially timed for my convenience with 12 seconds so I could see the Start Stop go off after the engine started. No faults and no voided warranty for this product. Plus video and support by @funman1..

I just bought a Highlander for my wife. I drive a Genesis GV70. What I do, as suggested in that forum, is use a old clip closes bread wrapper (or something similar). Trim the piece down and stick in in the Auto stop so its always depressed. Had it installed that way for about a year now with no issues and can remove it easily if going in for service. Any reason why this won't work here?

On my 2022 I learned how to stop the car without activating the stop/start and I also disable it if I'm in heavy traffic. It costs you zero dollars by pressing the button to disable it. After I put my seat built I enable hold and disable stop/start option.

I'm sure someone here will roast me hehehe....

On the 2019-2021 RAV4s that have auto S/S there is a simple trick that disables and deletes it---you disconnect the electric wire to the hood latch. The wire connects to a sensor on the hood release latch that sends a warning "hood open." Literally thousands of guys (including me) on RAV4 World forum have disconnected that wire without any problems and done away with the pesky auto S/S. Do Highlanders have that hood latch electric wire? Has anyone tried to disconnect it?

I have one on order. I like it due to it being plug-and-play and I'll update when I get it installed and functioning. Cheers!

Received the 4D Tech eliminator yesterday. It looks to be well made and installs in less than 5 minutes (remove switch trim, unplug switch, install the 4D Tech cable in between, reinstall trim). Works as it's supposed to. I'm happy! Cheers!
