A recent Toyota tech-tip (T-TT-0694-22 dated 5/18/2023) issue that seems isolated to Hybrid vehicles is apparently the possibility of connecting the jumper cable clamps near the ECU (thereby frying it) instead of where they should go:

Screenshot below of the Avalon Hybrid manual on how to properly jump, looks similar to the Highlander Hybrid instructions above:

I haven't jumped my vehicle yet, I think the ECU is located near the positive clamp position on the driver's side, and I don't know exactly how close it is or how easy it is to make this mistake. If anyone has experience with jumping and/or know where the ECU is especially relative to the positive clamp position, would appreciate the insight, thanks.

@Woodman911 , Thanks for posting this information. Worthy of being added to your TSB thread: TSB review and warranty coverage, updated 6/1/2023

The ECM contains the ECU and is located just below the brake fluid reservoir to the left of the engine fuse box which contains the positive jump point (See attached picture).

I did have to jump start my car once and don't recall where I connected the ground cable under the hood. Fortunately, I didn't have any issues after jump starting it.

This is the latest version of the TT I can find: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2022/MC-10220219-9999.pdf dated August 10, 2022

@NotFast,
I'd do whatever it takes to use the jump points they recommend in the Owner's Manual. In your case, you just need to use the ground side of the "real" jumper cable - you can connect the positive side of the jump pack cable directly to the jump point in the fuse box.

The subject tech tip makes me think I should just jump start the car by attaching to the auxiliary 12 V battery in the trunk to stay far away from the ECU in order to minimize the risk of damaging it.

Any thought on why this would not be good?
