Hi,
I'm wondering what time frame the average fuel consumption refers to on the display. The manual states the following (section 1-10, pg 267):
"3. Average fuel consumption ('AVG MPG' or 'AVG L/100 km') Average fuel consumption is calculated and displayed based on total driving distance and total fuel consumption with the engine running. The displayed value is updated every 10 seconds."

Is this an average for the current trip? Is it for the lifetime of the vehicle? Something else?
It seems to change and jump around too often to be for the lifetime of the vehicle, but I'm still unsure what it means.

Any help is appreciated. TIA

That is the outside temp, as it says there. The avg. fuel consumption will be found on the dash right behind the steering wheel. You may have a little black knob that you need to press many times to cycle through various info. Maybe try pressing the info button a couple times to see if you can find other information on this centre unit as well.

Hi All,

As usual, thanks to all who take their time to pen...well, type.... ;)

In the 2 years & 10K miles I've had my '06 Limited, I'd agree that the MPG info on the multi function is DEFINITELY usually over 'optimistic'..... ;)

But the other thing I notice is it gets 'wonky' often.....for instance on the same road where she typically runs say 18avg.....on one trip it showed 36avg.......and in other cases where it should be 18-19 she shows 16avg.

My psychology degree, if I had one, would diagnose her as narcissistic for the high #s and bi polar for the wonky wild swing ones......

Anyone else notice this?

Bottom line: I love her for so many reasons.......but MPG sure ain't one.....

Your thoughts?
