Today my back up camera is showing about 1/3 screen of my license plate and toyota name on the plastic piece on the back bumper. Just started today. No hard trunk slams or anything. Is there a simple adjustment I can make without going to dealer. Everyday there is something wrong about this great car. I did get a call from Toyota corporate saying my headliner is at the dealership and never on back order. Only back order is on the seat clips. Not exactly what the dealership told me last week about the headliner. Oh well. Now I guess I can add back up camera to my getting longer each day list. Thanks to any help you can give me..

Sorry I don't have a solution, but I believe most of these issues of parts popping loose are attributed to the imperfect ride. I guess if parts aren't installed to specs then things happen. Imagine the problems these vehicles will have when they are 3 years old and still under warranty. Toyota will have its hands full.

I agree about the coming years. It is like the car is falling apart before my very eyes. The ride does not bother me as much as some people, but it is not like the old Avalons for sure. I was wanting a luxury car not a John Deere tractor car. Oh well, I will be back at the shop again today. Thanks for the reply.

Could someone with a Limited please help me? Where the camera shows on the nav system, it shows my license tag number and bumper. I never noticed this until after about 2
months ago. It is watermarked with the Check surroundings for safety statement. I think the camera is out of adjustment. The service tech says it is just the way it is. Would the approximate distances be off if it is showing the license plate and bumper? I hate to ask someone if I can look at their camera. Would feel like a stalker waiting in a parking lot???

I've had my Limited for 12 months, and have never noticed the license plate and bumper UNTIL TODAY (I did have to look for awhile to notice it). I just went out and looked sure enough, mine is identical to yours. I have a crystal clear rear view with the backup camera and have no complaints.

Mine looks the same. Designed this way. Before it was mentioned here, I never noticed that you could see the top of the license plate and the rear bumper cover.

I like it just the way it is because when I back into a parking space, I can see exactly where the painted white line is located. I don't want or need the camera to be set higher as I don't want or need to see more of the sky.

The only thing I don't like has nothing to do with the camera. I don't like the messages that pop up blocking the view when I first put the car in reverse, while the system is still "booting up". If I want a better view, I wait a few seconds for the messages to finish. I can live with it.

x75aws, yes yours looks like mine. I can almost read your license number.. My car has the plastic bumper cover which says Toyota which shows on mine also. Thx for the pict. I was not a good photographer and my picts did not turn out well. I guess mine was always like that I just never noticed it. Appreciate the answers for now I won't lerk in parking lots waiting for a 2013 Limited to pull in and park.. lol

I think it's a good idea to be able to see the bumper. If you are parallel parking, you can get to within an inch of the car in back of you and then adjust you space with the car in front.

I've known this from the beginning with my car. The red line is not always as close as I've wanted to come to a wall in a parking structure where I've backed into the space. Or to the car behind whilst parallel parking. It's a feature, not a problem.

Lately, with all the sloppy weather in my area, I've wished for a washer for the back up cam.

Mine used to only show the edge of the back bumper, now the 1/2 meter (red) line is almost ON the rear bumper. The license plate and bumper fill almost 1/3 of the screen. Since there are no (obvious) adjustments, I'm thinking of accessing the camera through the trunk lid and adding a thin shim that would tilt the camera back out to the proper angle. Any ideas?

Check to make sure that the housing that the camera is encased in is not broken. I had the same problem with mine in that the image on the screen was not focused right. The plastic camera housing was completely broken off. I think a teenager had too much time on his hands and broke it. It is situated in an area where practically nothing can damage it.

2016 Avalon - my license plate top is now magically showing. I took off the trunk liner and looked at it. The electrical lines are fine, the clip seems to be in place, the car has not had an accident (I am almost 69 years old female)-and I am irritated. I loosened the nuts holding on the lens. Tried reseting the camera. No luck. I give up.

I have the same problem with my 2018 Limited. One day, the view changed -- the bottom third of the screen showed my license plate. I swear it wasn't like that before. No accident, no harsh trunk shutting, it just happened. The dealer said the camera wasn't adjustable and there was nothing they could do. (I'm not sure they believed me.)

NEWS FLASH
A month ago My TAH was hit from the behind and some damage was on the trunk and lid.
The body shop did a great job with the paint and it's like new again. I didn't notice until this weekend that the camera was "down". I could see the whole license plate and three feet behind. I called the body shop and they said to come by.
I explained and the "mechanic" took it back in the shop.
When they painted the lid the camera was removed. They reinstalled it and thought it's done.
The owner of the shop had the car back to me in 15 minutes.
HE said that there are three "positions" for the camera in the trunk lid. It's not adjustable, but it has to be set in the correct position.
I trust and believe him. (I've known him for 20 years)

I don;t know your motivation to remove the fiber cover of the trunk lid and poke around, but he had it fixed in minutes.
It is back showing the correct rear view. good luck
