Bad ECM following Remote Start installation?

Hi. I have a 2019 Highlander Hybrid. .I bought a MPC remote start from Amazon a few months ago and finally decided to install the thing today. Followed all the instructions online. It was really easy actually. Just a matter of unplugging a few harnesses and the programming was easy too.

Now the problem is nothing in the car seems to work. Lock buttons, power windows, dome lights, head lights all do not work. Even when the harness was put back originally. The hybrid malfunction warning light is on.

The tech from MPC told me to unplug the 12 volt batter for 15 minutes and that should reset the computer. Did that but no luck. He did tell me that a few harnesses back in December had the pins in the wrong position.

I have feeling the unit bricked my ecm. Anyone have experience with this?

If the MPC guy admitted that they had some reversed wiring it's very likely that you did damage some of the electronics. Unfortunately it won't be easy to diagnose without proper test equipment. And the cost of the repairs can be quite significant.

You may be very lucky and the issue is just a few burned fuses. Start by inspecting your fuses one by one. Don't just inspect them visually, test them with a DMM. Check the fuse boxes under the hood and under the dashboard. Again, if you are really very extremely lucky, it may be a fuse or two.

But if the defective MPC product caused the damage to one or more ECUs, I would consider contacting a lawyer because the diagnostics and repair costs can be thousands. You want MPC to pay for that.

Also:

Check your car battery. You may have drained it while trying to install the remote starter. Are you able to start your engine?

Check the harness connection again, bent pin, loose connection, etc.

If I'm not wrong, MPC repackages the Fortin remote starter module which I have installed in my 2017 HL XLE (my review). I remember during my installation, I reversed the power connector and bent a pin but even then I didn't fry anything.

I have the 2018 Highlander, not hybrid, and I purchased the start X remote, which looks pretty much identical to the MPC. I installed it, and I am having the same problems with the electrical system that you’re speaking of what was the repair that it took to fix.
