That was the first thing I noticed when I saw a GH Platinum at my local dealership last year. I wasn't sure based on the pictures online- but in person, the glued on chrome hubcaps were pretty obvious. I'm pretty sure that the Limited and Platinum Hybrid Max trim levels get them too- just with a different finish.

Curb rash does suck on any wheel huh
The difference is- with a traditional alloy wheel, you can take it to an alloy wheel repair shop and have it refinished for about $150-200 and it will look good as new. If you damage a Chrometec wheel, there's no way to repair it- you can't refinish the plastic chrome hubcap- and it's glued on.

Unfortunately, the tires that Toyota uses on both the Highlander and Grand Highlander with the 20" wheel option provides little protection against curb scrapes. All it takes is one rushed parking job on the street and it's game over for the Chrometec wheels.
