I've settled on a used 2006 Highlander, but would like to see what other's opinnions are on the pros and cons between the two body style.

Its an all out war on the 2006-07 vs. 2008-10 model.

..... My perspective ....

I test driven both the 06-07 and the 08-10 model, and I found my compromise.

The new 08-10 are very stylish, and well appointed. Blue tooth remote keyless startup, bluetooth phone, navigation, reverse camera, and prius like performance status display.

Its front grill is outlandishly aggressive in demeaner, unlike the yawn of its pre 2007 model, which just puts you asleep.

However, I still chose the the 2006 model, because first and foremost, its easier to manuver. No bulge on the hood to obscure my field of view when I'm parking, and 500lbs lighter.

In the end I chose the 06 model because it feels more nimble, and handles better. I do my pricing based on depreciation value over its life expectancy. In either case, a used 09 didn't differ much from a used 06 in terms of cost per year. But I felt more control and driving pleasure from the 06.

My current car is a 98 BMW 540i.

4WD and cargo space.

The 2008 and later models are all 4WD and have more cargo space. I am not sure how the 3rd row seating compares, I ordered my 2009 model without the 3rd row seat to gain a little storage space.

I didn't upgrade to the 19" wheels after hearing the problems people had getting tires for them.

I had an 06 HH Limited and traded for a left over 08 HH Limited last Feb.

A few reasons why I prefer the 08+ over the early ones:
1) More room all over the entire vehicle
2) While heavier I am getting better fuel mileage then I did with my 06
3) Driver leg room and seat comfort better then 06. I have a bad back and the 06 was hard to ride in for long periods, in fact after 30-45 min. the 06 was uncomfortable to me, not so with the 08 and 4 hour trips are no problem.
4) Styling of the newer ones isn't as dated.
5) Bluetooth and keyless entry
6) EV mode and a number of other enhancements like brake hold on a hill

I am totally satisfied and happy with my 08 and think is was well worth the swap.

I just picked up the 06 HH yesturday. True about the bluetooth key fob, and bluetooth phone option. That is another major item I need to take care of. I'll have to wire in a BT handsfree kit from somewhere. I don't want another plug-in kit dangling around. I'll have it hard wired and out of sight.

Now if I can only get Toyota to show me the back door to all the MFD configuration and custom settings.
