manual transmissions have no computer controls, so your manual car does not care what manual trans is in it. most C series transmissions work fine, some need a different inner axle to work.

 

They'll fit, but the wiring and electronics are different for the engine.

 

In order for you not to have a CEL, you will need to swap ECU's. the manual and automatic use different computers. VSS is different. Also, why don't you just swap the tranny. Keep the 7AFE. Just my suggestion. I'm in the process of doing the tranny swap myself

 

The 7AFE is a more stable engine. Unless you've thrown a rod or done something serious, just change out the transmission and computer.

 

Turns out it's a 1.6

Thanks for the info guys! After more looking, I've learned that my engine is actually a 1.6L. I was led the believe that it was a 1.8L based on the sticker on my distributer. However, upon closer inspection of the sticker on my hood (which had been all covered in grease - explains why I couldn't read it before) my engine is definitely a 1.6L as well. So I shouldn't have any problems dropping the 1995 1.6L engine into my 1997 since it's the same engine (both 4A-FE)...and the transmissions should be fine as well! Sound right?

I'm going to go look at the possible donor car tomorrow with my Dad (the mechanic here). He'll bring his code reader to see if by any chance the 95 is obdII. If it isn't, we'll just change all the things that we need to. And of course, by "we" I mean "he"!
