What's the recommend oil viscosity and why do you want to switch?

 

I am talking about oil grade i am not changing my brand or one viscosity

 

I'm sure the SP oil would be fine. That's what I'm using. BTW, from what I've read the SN+ / SP designation is an improved formula over the SN. The improvement was made to help prevent wear to timing chains.

Bobisthe oil guy is where I found out backward compatible is 2 to 3 letters.so when 2007came out the grading was SL next is SM& SN now all they carry is SP.

As for the dif btw SN vs SP per bob it is substantial. To get the SP grade oil co had to meet 8 new stringent requirements.

 

You will be fine with current grade full syn 5W-30. I have the same engine in my 2007 Accord V6, I use Pennzoil Platinum full syn, runs fine, not using any oil.

 

That brings up another issue I came across, not to use anthything better than blended oil in our engines. Something about long term use of full synthetic and seals. So i am not taking a chance. To me blended is better than OEM and I still change oil at 3k. I think the interval of oil change is the most important thing with oil.

 

I've been running Quaker State Full Synthetic after reading about it on bobistheoilguy. It has a high moly content and quiets down valve train noise quite a bit. I've been running it in three vehicles, an Avalon 3.5, a Ford 3.5 Duratec, and a 5.4 Triton 3v, and all have been happy.

 

It was previously known as Quaker State Ultimate Durability until they simplified their naming a few years ago.

 

The 3.5 Duratec is a 2017, my Avalon 3.5 is a 2011, and the 5.4 Triton 3V is a 2008. The Duratec I ran Motorcraft Synthetic blend in under warranty, didn't notice it made much noise any ways so little difference in going to QS FS. The 5.4 3v is a remanufactured (so new) engine with upgraded components timing components and various other problematic parts, I ran conventional for the "break in" as recommended by the remanufacturer and switched it to QS FS after the break in was supposedly over, didn't notice a change in sound other than during the break in period which I don't attribute to oil. My 3.5 Avalon had 5w30 Mobil 1 it's entire life until about 120k when I switched it to QS FS, it is noticeably quieter outside and also in the cabin with the radio off running the QS FS.

I did more research found out the full synthetic oil (OLD formula) use additives that would swell seal on older cars. This is no longer true. Supposedly they changed their additive package. It is now supposed to be safe for older cars. Thanks for your feedback.
