Can you recommend a scanner for 2007 Corolla Altis?

Hi there,

I scanned my car using a generic scanner (cheap HH OBD blue tooth scan tool) on my Altis, but it said it could not connect to the ECU. After reading online someone had mentioned that the Altis is not OBD-ll compatible because the Altis has a JDM engine. If that's the case, can someone recommend a compatible scanner for this car? Thank you!

Japan does not require OBD2 on RHD cars that usually stay in Japan.
It's more on where the destination of the car was to be when it was built. Not really the JDM engine.
So you have a OBD2 port but no communication with your scanner?
These guys say theirs works with "everything Japanese' . I haven't used one.

I'll have to inspect the OBD cables first and then try another scanner, because it gives me the "cannot connect to ECU" error message. Hopefully, it's just the fact the scanner is cheap. Getting a
better scanner is probably the solution.

Hi Esso,

Yes, It was turned on. I tried this scanner on another vehicle, Suzuki R Wagon 2006, and it also could not connect to ECU.

I just wanted to confirm that its a problem with the cheap scanner and not the Altis before I buy a better scanner.

I cannot find any documentation on this Altis, or how or where to check what kind of scanner it accepts. Does anyone know where I can find on the car what kind of scanner this is compatible with before I buy a scanner? Thank you.

The door sill or under the hood should have what OBD it has. The tough part is if there was mods to the vehicle, it’s hard to say if anything was changed that may effect the connection.

What is your current position. Does it not run or what lead you here.

I pulled this info from the frame. There doesn't seem to be any mods done, I'm having a hard idlle and stall after I start the car with check engine light. If I restart the idle settles down eventually and the car runs alright. But, there is a rich fuel smell that goes away after a few minutes.
I cleaned the MAF sensor the other day and it's still the same. Could be the throttle body and sensor, but before I take any more guesses I need a scan done.

Someone has said the 3ZZFE engine is only compatible with intelligent tester. I have no idea.

Does it have a OBD! DTC port under the hood that you can jump and count the Flashing of the CEL? If not it's OBD2.
In theory Toyota wold've equipped it OBD2 compliant then.
Maybe drop these guys a note, they say their device works All Toyotas world wide.
Maybe they can give you some answers.
Hi sdspeed,

I cannot see any dtc port under the hood. Thank you for your link, I'll reach out to them for answers. Either way I'll have to take this car to a shop and see if they can run a scan.

On a side note, I miss the 2000 Camry I had in Canada. It honestly was the most reliable car I ever had. A dream come true as far as maintenance is concerned.

Of course I treated it good, making sure the oil changes were done on time etc. But, one could treat that car badly and it would still start up everytime like a champ, regardless of the weather. It turned me into a Toyota fanboy.

While waiting for the scanner, throw a container of Techron Injector Cleaner in the tank. You follow a "healthy" maintenance style so you are on top of the obvious. When you get the scanner you will have a variation of misfire or lean fuel trouble codes. The live data Long term fuel trim will be around +25, It should vary between -10 and +10 at hot idle. the computor is lengthening the injector pulse to comensate for lean mixture at the fuel mixture sensor (O2 sensor bank 1 sensor 1) caused by laquer buildup in the injectors.
