Hey guys, the fuel line is fine.

Today after work I started the car in a sheltered car garage and as soon as I started the car the after the initial start up sequence the check engine light stayed on and the traction control light stayed on and right next to it on the left side the "VSC Off" light kept blinking and flashing. I turned off the car and started it several times to see if that did anything and to no avail nothing happened.

While I was driving those lights stayed on and the VSC off light kept on blinking.

I also checked the brakes and the brake fluid and they all seem to be fine, I even checked the fuel door as well.

I am not sure what is wrong. I was looking at some of the complaint sites and most people say it happens when you drive through a deep puddle or if it is cold and wet outside. But that didn't make sense because I drove in the snow and those lights never turned on. The only time I used the ETS button is during the snow storms and I drive at low speeds.

I need to know why this VSC off light is blinking? Is it a bad sensor or is the ABS/ETS brake system broken or is it an ECU issue or is it because of an alignment. Since I was told to get an alignment soon.

I will probably keep driving the car at least until I can get to the dealership and I hope nothing happens and if it is an issue I hope my factory warranty or my extra coverage warranty that I purchased with the car can repair that damage.

It's hard to trust the dealers. I had an electrical issue that was effecting the car (2010 Corolla LE) 88k miles. It steadily got worse to when I changed low/ high beams my radio would shut off, and electric power steering would be erratic. Dealer said alternator was erratic charging the battery and that effected te electrical system. Their quote for a new alternator, installed was over $600. Wowe. Bought one off Rock Auto for 180, their best. My mechanic installed it, only charging 12v to battery, needed 14+. He played with it for a bit, checked a connection and it came up to 13v. Got home ok. Went to use car again, and nothing, no dash lights, nothing. put meter on battery, 11v. What? meter to + post to ground, 1.3v. took out battery and checked ground cables. There was loose connection and corrosion where wire went thru fitting. Cleaned and voila! 14.5v at battery with engine running. Alls good, except a few days later the check engine light and vsc light came on. mech. put analyser on and cleared ok, but came back.

The light came on again so I decided to clean the gas cap area really well. I cleaned the cap and where the cap sits and it was a little dirty. the rag did turn black. After I was done, I disconnected the battery (red terminal) for 30 seconds and all the lights went off (I don't think it will reset itself when this problem occurs). It's been a week now and it has not come back on. So, I would suggest two things:

-Don't overfill your car gas. Try to stop it before it reaches full
-When you pull the gas filler out, make sure it is not dripping onto where your going to screw the gas cap on.
-Tighten your cap until you hear a really nice click. or have it click a few times to make sure it is as tight as possible.

Actually thank the EPA on that one. It's a requirement to have the check engine light come on with the loose gas cap. Why it would disable VSC however is another matter entirely.

It drives me batty that every manufacturer has these lights come on but doesn't list what the possible causes are in the manual. At the very least provide a damn troubleshooting CD with the car, total cost:$0.19.

.
I was trying to determine my accesory wire w/ a multimeter today in my 2010 corolla S - i had the wrong setting on the meter which shorted out my radio and blew a fuse. when i started the car up i had the VSC OFF blinking light and the check engine light constant and no radio.

my fix. after i ran to the store to grab a fuse, i disconnected the + battery terminal, while that was off i opened/closed the gas cap - as safe measure. put the battery cable back on and no more light. honesly i think the battery terminal was all i needed to do, but it all worked out. hopefully it does the same for you

turn off engine and Traction control lights on with blinking "TSC off" light.

You might want to try this before going to toyota
I got this after changing air filter, however this was due to I forgot to clip in connector on top of air filter cover.
First thing I noticed was that the engine was idling rough, to which I saw the the engine and Traction control lights on with blinking "TSC off" light.
Of course I remembered what I did and clipped the connector together. but this did not turn off the lights.
To turn them off:
Hold the Traction control off switch in.(located by the mirror controls),
Turn key to on position(do not start engine) let car go through POST(Power On Self Test).
If all is well all light should go out.

If they stay on you may actually have an issue.

Hope this helps

Is this supposed to work? It didn't for me. I'd rather not have to just unplug the battery, that would just mean I'd have to redo all my radio stations and clock, plus its raining outside.

Hey guys,

I'm new to the forum as I just purchased a second hand 2009 matrix XR (2.4L) 2-3 weeks ago.

Things were all fine and dandy until my first fill up. Got a CEL+Traction lights with the flashing VSC off driving later that very night I filled up. After doing some research on here and MatrixOwners.com, it seems that this is a very common issue with the Corolla/Matrix models. I just wanted to know if anyone else had noticed that their
car would lose throttle control or wouldn't rev past 3k/rpm. I haven't disconnected the battery or anything, and I'm pretty sure that I've tightened the gas cap plenty good. I live up in Canada so I don't think we have any autozones or other automotive stores that would give me a free ODB2 scan (maybe Canadian Tire, but i'm not sure) so I don't have a code to give you guys.

Can anyone tell me if my case is unique or are there others out there with the infamous 3 lights of death AND the loss of throttle response?

I found the solution to your problem !!!

I have very little car knowledge but im extremely handy .My Moms Toyota Matrix 2010 had the same check engine / blinking vsc light . I tried some of the tricks that bloggers posted on this site but this is what worked for me .

- Clean the gas opening / gas cap/ little grey button .
- Disconnect the positive terminal from the bat. (red) with a ratchet set and hand ratchet
- If corruption aka calcium build up go to the reno depot or home depot ask for aluminum to copper compound
- Remove all calcium before applying then glaze the nipple of the baterrie
-Retighten the terminal and turn on the car

Thats what i did and it worked

Cheers!!

2010 Toyota Matrix Check Engine Light VSC Off P060E

So I had a P060E code from AutoZone when my check engine light and VSC off light came on. When I would stop at a stop light my Matrix would not accelerate until I put it in park and restarted it. I took it to Toyota and they told me I needed a new ESU for $1200. I decided to buy a used ECU from a junk yard for $30 and paid $300 to program it. Still had the same problem.

I finally found out the problem. It was a self inflicted problem. I had installed LED brake bulbs and when I put back in the regular brake bulbs it fixed the problem. When you step on the brake it turns off the current to the throttle body as a safety feature. On the 2010 Matrix it has a wire throttle and the LED brake bulbs in the circuit confused the ECU and kept the current turned off to the throttle body. I was able to leave the LED bulbs in the turn signals and backup lights but not the brake lights. So I had installed a $400 LED mistake. Hope this post saves somebody else the expensive experience.

How did you determine it was the brake led?

I had read another post that a person was having the same problem. He said he found a short in his brake light socket. My problem didn't start until after I installed new LED brake bulbs. It stopped after I put the regular brake light bulbs back in. It didn't start right away but a few days later after the install. I talked to my mechanic and he said brake light LED bulbs have caused different problems in other cars as well.

I changed all the bulbs to LED in my Toyota FJ Cruiser with no problems. I tried to change the bulbs to LED in my Lexus ES and it lit up the burnt out bulb indicator. I changed all the bulbs to LED in my Fifth Wheel trailer with no issues. I changed all the lights in my house and cabin to LED as well. I really like LEDs. They are brighter, quicker, less current. Also no heat so they do not melt the plastic enclosures.

2010 corolla. check engine and VSC flashing

I had the same issue in my 2010 corolla. check engine and VSC flashing. I try to unplug the negative wire from the battery for a minutes, but that solved the problem only for 2 days. I replace the gas cover as Iv been told by the dealershit and AutoZone but also did not solved.
Finally I found a leak in the gas pipe which is above the gas tank. I fixed it by baying a repair material from Wal-Mart. I f you smell any gas in your car that is mean your problem is easy to fix

Check engine Light on / TC on/ VSC blinking

Yes , the facts are staggering. This happened to me twice and both times right after I filled up my the gas tank until I can't fill it no more.
First, turn of all these the lights by unplugging the battery terminal
second, do not, I repeat do not fill up the gas tank. This happened to me twice after I filled out the gas tank until full.
Basically, the corolla holds 11 galons, put 9 gallon max.
Do not overfill, this will cause the light to go on.

Have the same issue heres the catch, car is completely stock, filled all the way up to the cap Sunday same as i have since I bought the car new with 13 miles on it and now has 140k. Drove fine Sunday- Tuesday, didnt go anywhere Wed., Thurs. morning CEL/MIL VSC off blinking and traction control on. Im going to scan it on the way home and see what code it gives.

Count me in too, 09 XRS. Drove to work this morning, no issue. Parked all day in sunny cool weather. Started car after work and CEL and VSC/TRAC lights are on and staying on (VSC blinking).

I drove it home and the car felt fine...maybe not the best idea ever. Now Im going to check the gas cap (filled up a couple days ago) and disconnect the batt for a bit and go from there

Update - gas cap appeared fine, though i cleaned the seal and the filler neck itself to ensure a smooth fit. Disconnected the battery for 30min, reattached and started the car and no more CEL/VSC/TRAC lights. Fine for my drive to and from work yesterday. Spoke to our mechanic at work and his suggestion was to not worry about it, if the light comes back on go to the dealer for a scan... so we will wait and see.
