Grettings,
I am about to pick 2020 Hybrid, LE from Dealer as demo vehicle, driven 2700km (1200ish in miles).
What are the things I should check before handing out payment, sign off?
Thanks!

I'd expect a HUGE discount for buying a "new" car with 2700km that's from the previous model year. In my opinion, that's not new, but to the dealer it is because technically it has never been sold.

So in my opinion, I'd treat it like a used car and have that mindset about looking for wear and tear, scratches, dents, mechanical issues, and so on.

If you can't get a great deal on it relative to a 2021 with 0km, I wouldn't buy it just on principle.

Given it's a demo with that much mileage you can pretty well be assured it's been abused - hard acceleration, hard braking, rapid lane changes, etc. If it were me (which it would not be) agree with @toto that a HUGE discount would be appropriate with maybe some other 'goodies' thrown in - myself I'd try to get an 'extended warranty' thrown into the deal.

Not happening lol. He'll get a decent discount and maybe a few minor accessories thrown in. At 2700km, it's relatively low mileage, a couple of months worth of driving. Our market is only a tenth of yours.

I see you referenced kilometers so I don't know how it works in your country but in the U.S. demos aren't considered used vehicles because they have never been titled. You wouldn't get a huge discount here.

Almost every car I've ever test driven had a salesman encouraging me to "see what she can do". I never do that because I know it's bad for a new car. There was only one exception to that. I had an Acura and the dealer had cars specifically for test drives, you didn't test drive the vehicle you were looking to purchase. You could start it and make sure everything worked but you couldn't drive them. Sounds weird but the vehicles you did test drive you could push them as hard as you wanted and drive them as far as you wanted. That way the car you bought was not abused in any way and had never been driven on a public road. The salesman said those cars were eventually sold as demos.

It doesn't matter to me if it's still a new car on paper. As the customer, it's up to you if you want to pay full price for a new car with 1000+ miles on it and a model year old as opposed to a newer one with 5 miles on it. To me, that's a huge difference that's worth a huge discount. If the dealer doesn't agree, they wouldn't get my money for it.

Update**
Thanks for all the sharing, care!!

So today AM I prior checked on phone with Dealer delivery coordinator.
There's chip on windshield by VIN number:(
He said you can pick and we will replace windshield later (on back order).
That's change everything...off course they drive vehicle afterwards for DEMO again.
I said NO, I will take delivery when windshield
replaced (it's like 1k item and I dont want to take any chances)
Plus once I take delivery, pay dealer then afterwards who cares for customer.
I will also throughly check vehicle now, the worse case they can keep my 1k deposit and I will safe myself with futre problems.
I will keep updating, post down the road!!!
Thanks,
Zee

Well, that sucks. There have also been issues with calibrating the camera after a new windshield has been installed.

One more thing, when will the subscriptions below expire?
  1. Safety Connect - Automatic Collision Notification, Stolen Vehicle Locator, Emergency Assistance Button, Enhanced Roadside Assistance (1 year subscription)
  2. SiriusXM Satellite Radio (3 months)
You may only end up with the time remaining. If so, maybe negotiate some extra item(s) like oil changes, accessories???

I would Google a new or used car checklist (there are several out there, some specific to certain vehicles — Tesla, for example — and others more generic) and just go down the list.

I might have missed it, but I don‘t think the OP mentioned whether they are buying it from the dealer as a “new” car or if it’s being sold as a used, previously titled vehicle. The Toyota dealer in my area titles their demo vehicles (they all have license plates) and then sells them as used vehicles (though they do differentiate them as “demo units” vs. used).

Demo unit usually means it has the full B2B warranty and perhaps sold as new even with 5,000 on the odo. Dealers will either title their cars, or will just throw their dealer plates on them for the duration. IIRC, Toyota regional managers drive cars that have the manufacturer plates on there (You see these on the press cars) and they are not titled.

Howdy,
It's no title, so technically new with less then 3k kilometers (as per today's update ;) )
New windshield and blades with Calibration will be done.
Before taking delivery,
How can I verify that I still get 1 full years of remote services via app + 3 months of sat radio?
Thanks!

Ask the sales and/or finance guys. Basically, it is a "NEW" car purchase, so you should get the full balance.

Canadian consumer laws various between provinces so you might want to do a search on the internet for demo car registration " your province". My colleague bought a new 2018 Santa Fa XL with 32km in 2019 in BC and the dealer sold the vehicle as a "demo" because technically he "test drove it". Because it is a "used car" he also saved the tire levy, AC tax, and I think PDI delivery charge or something.
