Considering a '07 Camry XLE V6 - a few questions...

Hey All -

I may be a proud owner of a used 07 Camry XLE V6 if everything works out. Having never owned a Camry (or any Toyota product before) I am wanting to get some opinions if I could. The main purpose for this vehicle is a daily commuter (beater) car. It has 240K miles on it already, it's had two owners - and oil changes were definately kept on top of - maintenance records show that. What's less clear to me is how the transmission was treated.

From a search on here and google, it appears the 07 Camry XLE v6 has the 2GR-FE engine I believe, but am unsure what transmission it comes with - seems to be a 6 speed auto of some sort.

Is this a transmission that's fairly robust or is it made of glass? If I do get it, I do plan to change the fluid and use the WS stuff. Having had Hondas and Acuras over the years - I I know their engines hold up well, but their transmissions are questionable depending on the year and model.

Anything I should be concerned about on this vintage? In talking to a dealership - they told me it had the dash replaced under some "sticky dash" recall but that was it.

Thanks

if these have not been fixed the timing covers leak oil but if its already been fixed your good and if ya live in the rust belt the head caskets rust again there's updated head gaskets once there fixed ya have 0 problems if ya maintain it

Thanks for the reply, I just stumbled upon a video on youtube about the coolant leak due to corrosion on head gaskets - vehicle is in Texas so I'm assuming it's good. If not, can the heads be removed with the block still in the car? I've done head gaskets before, but never on a V6 toyota.

If it has a timing cover leak, I assume it's just a gasket easily replaced?

Thanks

IMHO, since I have an 07 Camry Solara, the engine is reliable, the 5-speed trans is also good, afaik, but does want the fluid changed. QUESTION: Had the timing belt on the engine been changed. That job will run at least $500; it MUST be done every 90-100,000 miles; if it's not done, when the belt finally goes the engine will most probably be toast.
(( This is a discussion point here on TN, some say it's not an interference engine, shrug ))
