i have a 1990 v6 camry le and noticed that there is a leak on the drivers side of the engine at the top of the transmission near the exhaust manifold. its leaking coolant and you can't drive it more than a couple of blocks before the coolant level gets too low.

what do you think the problem could be and how can i fix it?

I was just checking out my Gen2 camry repair manual and it shows a pic of the 90 camry V6(2VZFE) and it looks like the radiator hoses are only on the passenger side of the vehicle. Though being that my Gen 2 has a 3SFE I'm not completely sure. If this is true then its prolly a bad freeze plug like trdcamry2003 said.

its not the radiator hose, and 89SV21 you are right the radiator hose is on the passenger side of the engine. I will check out the freeze plugs and try to figure it out but it almost seems like when you put your hands down the middle you can feel a hole where the coolant is coming out of. and its a solid hole, almost like it was meant to be there, its just some kind of a exit hole or something...........i hope i am not being too confusing

i will try to see if its the freeze plug.

Yeah, most coolant leaks are only visible when the system is at high pressure. So pressurizing the system is an easy way to look for leaks or even weak points in your system. I do this to my classic celica before a raceday.

Theres a metal coolant tube that runs under the intake manifold, this tube can develope a pin hole and fill the valley with coolant and come out from under the intake between the heads at the trans. But if its leaking as bad as you say you need to pressure check it with a pump, or fill it up with coolant and let it warm up with the cap on. Just giving you a heads up on that tube.
good luck!
