Im almost about to sign the paperwork on a 2010 Venza. I got thinking last night, Venza has keyless entry, does not have a key due to the push button start. This could be a stupid question, but if the battery goes dead how does one get into said venza with no key holes....

I got the same question before :)

Before i got my Venza on 06/15/10, I got the same stupid about the smart key. It is convenient one way and seems to be a little more to handle another way. You don't have to take the key out to get into the car and start it but I have to worry about battery draining and the care of it.

One warming in the manual said placing the smart remote next to the computer, wireless devices, and electronic devices (like TV?) may adversely affect or reduce the battery life... Well, I sit next to the wireless computer and TV all day long!

The car however is a joy to drive!

Smart Key Battery Life??

Just wondering what others are seeing for battery life in their Smart Key fobs. I had the batteries replaced last summer (2013) at my dealership & mine is already activating the low battery warning on the dash display. Had to touch the fob to the starter button yesterday to start the car.

I always carry the Fob in a side pocket well away from my keys & phone. Our car is parked 70 feet away from the house. 1 year seems like a very short life for this type of battery. Makes me long for the simplicity of an old fashion chipless key.

They should last at least 3 yrs or so depending on how much use the fob gets. Ours lasted 4 yrs from when we got our '09 Venza. It's possible the dealership put in an old battery that had been in their stock for years. It's easy to replace it yourself and that way you can ensure you are putting in a fresh battery.

My original battery only lasted 1 year. Bought a pack of Energizer online for half the price compare to store bought. I never use the buttons on the fob as I have a remote starter and thats the one I need use to activate the alarm. Hopefully this will last longer.

crenn, It was already mentioned that there is a physical key built into the Smartkey FOB that will get you into the car if the FOB battery is dead.

Also by pressing the starter button while holding the dead key fob up against the ring around the starter button will start your car. So you don't have to worry about being stranded if your Key FOB battery dies unexpectedly.
I have found that the Key FOB range deminished as the battery gets near its end of life so you can replace it before it dies completely. Mine need replacement after about 3 year.

Hope this helps. -TM-
