disable fuse for seat belt chimes

Does anyone know how to disable the annoying sound of the Matrix reminding you to put on your seat belt?

As you know, when you take off, the sounds chimes to remind you to put it on and as well, when a passenger sits in their seat, when you take off, it chimes again reminding them to put on their seat belt.

Wearing a seat belt is a must, be those annoying chimes are not!

Please respond if anyone knows.

Thanks!

Welcome to TN, colbeyca. I take it you have an 05 because the 03-04's don't have a chime but we do have a light indicator above the radio that tells us that the passenger isn't wearing their seatbelt.

There's obviously a sensor on the passenger seat and wiring in the seatbelt clip to turn off the chiming. Got some wire cutters? :)

Thanks for responding.
Because I am on a lease, I will not take you up on the wire cutters comment just yet.

I checked the obvious fuse box and it does not have an apparent fuse for this feature.

Still looking for an answer to this ...

It is controlled by the ECU.

You could locate the piezo buzzer and disable or tape over it. (but as a result you will loose headlight on reminder)

Try to locate the switch that senses the passenger present and there may be a plug that would disable and then you could plug it back in on return of vehicle.

Well, I am back to say i have had no luck in disabling this feature.
Under the passenger seat, I was able to expirement with disconnecting 2 plugs from a sensor but this only disabled the air bag for both the driver and passenger.
There is some sort of hardware underneath the driver seat that does not appear to be able to be tampered with.
Has anyone disabled this on their 2005 Toyota Matrix so far?
With all of you knowledgable members, I cannot believe that I am the only one who thinks that those chimes ringing in your ears for 20 seconds every time you take off without your seat belt are annoying enough to want to disable it, but I need your help!

Note This is something you shoulnt tamper with >>>>

The 2005 have smart air bags that look at speed of the car + if seat belt is on + Position of the seat before it deploys the air bags ... at full force or a slower staged deployment .. Disconcting any thing under the seat may cause harm if the bags are ever neaded....

I will look at the Electrical wire diagrams and let you know if there is an easy way to do this >>>>>

Hopefully Soon
MIKE

I looked at the Electrical wire diagrams today and found that you cant disable the buzzer .....it is intigrated into the instrument cluster.........Don t disable it .......Just put your seat belt on before you reach 10km/h or 6.5 mph that is when the choime starts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry couldnt fix it
