so i live out in the cut, for financial reasons since my properties are paid for and the only obligation i have in regards to money for them is general maintenance and upkeep, property taxes, and homeowner's insurance, so i save on average 15k-20k each year because i don't have a mortgage. anyways, the drawback is the inevitable realization that driving out here is like driving through a mine field, you literally have no clue when some frankly retarded deer will dart out in front of you. some even slam into the side of your car!!!! so i'm wondering if anyone has purchased said whistles and noticed a reduction in deer sightings? thanks

I think that deer whistles are a waste of money. Having good insurance with low deductibles is probably a much better use of your money if you are concerned about hitting a deer. It's usually pretty cheap to lower your comprehensive deductible from $500 to $250 or even $100. I've always had it set at $250 but found that it was only about $1-2 more per month to lower it to $100... so I did. Adjusting your insurance deductibles and coverage- and being very alert when driving at night- is probably a more useful solution than a set of those deer whistles.

Most insurance companies would use your comprehensive insurance to cover a deer hit, not collision. (Lowering your collision insurance is usually much more costly).

I've always made sure to have really good insurance- and it has saved me from costly payouts a few times. Both my cars have $500 collision and $100 comprehensive deductibles, decent coverage amounts, and even a million-dollar umbrella that covers my cars as well as my home and personal property. Most people never really look that closely at their coverage- and if you are involved in a serious accident where multiple cars are involved or someone ends up in the hospital- and it's your fault (or someone else's fault that is underinsured)- that can be several hundred thousand in damages and most people don't have insurance coverage that would protect them. Similarly, getting rental coverage and even towing is usually very cheap when you get through your insurance company.

In my humble opinion just having exhaust and always having my music blaring seems to freeze them in their tracks on the side of the road. I live in a rural area as well and thank God that I've never hit a deer even though I see them all the time. Not a fan of the whistles just for the simple fact of I don't like how they look. Hope this helps!
