Do you allow anyone else to drive your Corolla?

I'll give the shirt off my back and do or give just about anything for my family and friends but I reserve one thing in this world unto me, myself, and I and that's my car. I've always been that way and will always be that way. Of course, I'd allow whatever was necessary in an emergency so that's how I'd answer this poll.

I just hope to discover if I'm just a totally unreasonable, paranoid, selfish jerk or if anyone else shares the desire to keep their cars devoid of alien use.

I have respect, and I treat all with respect, even car rentals.

My car I purchased, was a Family lease, and will have no problem lending to a family member.
Always good to treat the property of others with respect...with the exception of a complete piece-of-sh*t rental (where it's already been beat to hell), or in some cases where the rental agent was a complete d*ck to me.

I'm very particular about my cars, so I really don't like when the people I would theoretically lend my cars to think that door dings, and curb rash, are acceptable wear & tear. I won't even get started on door slamming.

Seeing as how I have multiple cars, I find it easiest, and not at all painful, to lend out the Corolla, without worrying about door slamming, scratches, dings, or curb rash. Ideally, I'd rather have those I lend it to be just as careful as me, but I don't see that happening.

I owned a 2002 Tacoma for 13 years. I only let ONE person drive it. He got on the freeway in 2nd or 3rd gear and drove the RPMs to 4000-5000 before I caught it and told him to switch to "D". After that I never let anyone drive my 2002 Tacoma. I suppose mechanics drove it about 3-4 times. Once after I got my timing belt changed I am sure they drove it.

When I got my 2015 Corolla I wanted my dad and brother to drive it just to see how a CVT felt. They both seemed to like it a lot. My brother is now looking for a Corolla to replace his 2006 Accord that he has had major problems with. I am helping him find a good used 2015.

I do not let anyone drive my Corolla. Ever. If an emergency arises and I am unable to drive, and my vehicle is the only one available, I would have to entrust it to my mom or dad, maybe even sister. Overall, I don't even like people to ride in my car, it's my precious baby, I am paranoid someone will defile or harm it, lol. It's a fetish of mine, especially if someone slams the door harder than I can tolerate, or ends up doing something annoying like letting a condensated drink sit in my cup holder, or put their feet on the dash, or pull on the edges of the sunroof to look up out of it... Or pulls on the door handle when it's locked like a maniac.

So yeah you're not alone, I'm possibly more protective than most, lol.

Wow...and I thought I was protective of my euro-sedans! They are treated with kid-gloves, but they're also pushed on fun drives (well, one of them anyway). I did, however, lend out the newer of the two about a month after I got it, and did so without any worry whatsoever, but that was a rare situation, as the friend who borrowed it is just as careful with her car, left me with a car of greater value while she had mine, and has the financial ability to replace my car without issue, should she have wrecked it - very rare circumstance though!

If you don't want anyone else to drive your Corolla, get one with stick. That's why my mom doesn't drive mine.

That's what I did with my '06 Corolla and I had nine years of nobody-wants-to-drive-my-car bliss. But I had both my hips replaced last year so I very sorrowfully got the CVT. So now after my surgeries have healed, I SO wish I had gotten the six-stick. In addition to keeping aliens out of the driver's seat, it's so much more fun to drive!

But all is well - I've learned how to say no when someone even thinks about asking to drive my car. "Hey John, I have a really special favor to as..." is instantly interrupted by a loud, resounding, and final NOOOOOO!

I don't let anyone drive my Corolla or MR2. I would trust my wife but she never would because if anything happened she would feel terrible she says. My entire family of wife, 3 daughters, in-laws, parents, etc all know how to drive a manual so for my family that's not an issue though it is for most people. I wouldn't allow my daughters to get their license until they learned how to drive a manual. Now they all drive a MT and love it.

I am so doing this if I ever get my life figured out, meet the right lady, and have a family! Despite it being more fun to drive a stick, you learn better car control. The only thing more fun is a well-sorted out dual-clutch-paddle-shifted gearbox in a high-dollar sports car.

I still stand by my statement that not all manual transmissions are fun (farm tractor, semi tractors, '88 Taurus...).

I'm so thankful that my third vehicle, only truck, was a 5spd standard matched to a 4.6 V8. I'll never forget that little truck, and man did I almost die a few times in that thing. I swear 2nd could go from 10-60 mph in like 6 seconds, and that flow master made it feel like a rocket ship. Ah, good memories.

I think everyone should at least learn to drive stick! Once it's in you, you'll never forget, and who knows, could be useful someday. Most likely not, just like computers have taken over the need for most people to learn to balance a checkbook and other basic things we used to get taught. Glad I'm one that did learn!
