Car: 1998 Toyota Corolla with no aftermarket additions.

I adjusted the lightbulb in my dome light because it always get lose, and when I got the connectors positioned right, it blew the 15A Dome fuse under my hood. I easily found the blown fuse and replaced it, and the dome light, radio and clock started working again. I then tried to put the lightbulb back in the dome light, and the minute the lightbulb lit up, the fuse blew again and everything turned off.

1. Is it clear at this point there is a short somewhere with my dome light fixture?
2. Might there be any other issue at play?
3. What steps can I take to correct on my own?

Thank you!

Above your left foot when driving there is a fuse panel with lots of relays. I believe the radio and dome are grounded at that location to the body and its common to have issues in that area. I recomend you stick your head in there and check all the grounds to the body. Replace anything that looks suspect could be the issue.

I think the issue was that I was keeping the light circuit on when trying to put the bulb in, and in the process of putting in the bulb, I must have been accidentally hitting another metal piece up there causing the short. Once I turned off the light switch, then inserted the bulb, and switched the light back on at the end, everything worked perfectly.

Thanks guys, I'll also check the grounds in the relay panel to make sure all is well there.

I upgraded my interior lamps to LED panels and they put out so much more light and heaven forbid I forget and leave my dome light on all night my battery isn't dead in the morning. Not that I've done that 4-5 times in the past few years....
