Don't know where to start with my suspension mods:

OK, I got new Falken's for my car, and the grip is substantial now - however, there is a TON of body roll and the car is leaning WAY too much and not using all the grip the tires can provide. Also, I think the struts are shot to begin with (almost 80,000 miles)

I was talking to my dad and I was saying I wanted to get new struts, but he informed me that struts RECOVER movement, and don't prevent it, and if I wanted to reduce body roll (as in, my car listing in a corner), I would need stuffer springs as well. Anti-roll bars and strut tower braces are also in the equation.

Where do I start? Can you link me to some threads? I have brought this up before, but I can't find a piece of information that I can use to hunt something down.

My goals are:

-Make the car handle better
-Keep its daily driver ability (as in, being able to go over speed bumps and all)
-Not attract attention (as in, I really don't want it slammed, I want the soccer mom look)

Any suggestions? My car is listed in my sig.

Thanks!!!

80k on the original struts?? I think you need new struts. OEM struts will reduce the rolling back to stock, aftermarket will probably roll even less than that. Either way you can corner better. You should also be able to go over speed bumps and driveways without bottoming out. The other parts do help, but I don't think you need them.

i would suggest a setup like this:

eibach spring kit
tokico struts
whiteline swaybar(s)

eibach will keep your car fully fuctional when it comes to speedbumps, and its not as noticeable of a drop as most other springs, and still retains performance. tokico is in my opinion the best choice for performance with price in mind. and whiteline's swaybars make very substantial differences in handling and body roll.

just a side note, the tokico struts are a tad rougher ive heard, but in my gen 3 with 3" drop they still give a really comfortable ride (it still feels like a camry).

Sweet. Awesome info.

I would love to bust out the *bling bling* platinum card and order everything right now.

Are swaybars the ones that go under the hood/in the trunk from strut tower to strut tower?

Sway bars ar attached to the struts behind the wheels. The one in the engine compartment (under the hood) is called strut bar.

The sway bar reduces sway, the strut bar makes the chasy stiffer. You have front and rear sway bars in the Camry.

Whiteline makes front and rear sway bars, TRD makes adjustable rear sway bar, many make strut bars (including TRD).

Do a bit more research before you "bust" the card :)

You should install the struts, springs and recommended - new upper strut mounts (at least in the front) and get an alignment all at the same time to save $ on labor.

The sway bars and strut tower bar you can do anytime.

Thats why I spend hours and hours online looking before I buy :p:

What do the strut bars do, in practice?

Can some one tell me exactly the parts I need to lower it 1.5" to 2"? I mean, can I just use lowering springs from Eibach or whatever with the stock struts that I have? Or do i have to change the struts too?
Its recommended that you change the struts too. The lowering adds more stress than stock struts are used to, so they'd probably blow out if you don't change them anyway. 1.5"-2" sound like a Vogtland drop...you should look into those.

I have the stuff in my sig, if I had to do it over, I'd probably go with the Tokicos over the KYBs. At the time I was ordering (summer '02), there were a bunch of posts about the Tokicos leaking, so I went with the KYBs, as the car is my daily driver. Don't get me wrong, I'm very pleased with the KYBs, and they offer a lot of bang for the buck, but I don't think their rebound is as quick as it could be.

I love my Eibach springs and Whiteline F&R swaybars, I would recommend them to anyone! It's tough to tell the car is lowered, but the performance difference is night and day, and when I do have a bunch of people in the car, I bottom less with the Eibachs than I did with the stock springs!

I have an OBX front strut tower brace that I got from Craig Paisley's shop on Long Island. I installed it just around the same time as my other mods so I really couldn't give a review of that piece alone. However, it's always a good idea to tighten the chassis if you can...

Hey everyone, I am still running on stock struts at 158,000KM... 58,000KM of that on H&R lowering springs... so as you can imagine it is time for me to get new struts and basically everything else that is easily exchanged.

What I know I am getting:

-KYB Gr2 struts
-Strut mounts
-Whiteline rear sway bar
-Alignment

My questions are:

-What rubber parts do I need to replace? Part name or #'s would be awesome

-What rubber/polyurethane parts do I need to get for the whiteline sway bar (right now my stock swaybar makes so much noise over large bumps.. especially in the cold). I read that I should also wrap the sway bar with Teflon tape and put marine grease on it.. anything else?

It is a 1994 I4… so only sealed struts work… that is why I am getting the KYB’s and not Tokico’s

Thanx!

So, I'm thinking:

-Whiteline swaybars
-Eibach springs
-Tokico struts

That ought to take a chunk out of my wallet... :disappoin

On the 19th, I will know if I won the million dollar prize from Sirius. If so, I will buy a STI.

The whiteline sway bar comes with all needed bushings. Make sure to put alot of lithum grease when installing the bar, or it too will make noise.
Also, dont get the KYBs, i have them with my H&Rs and they blew in less than a year.

Really? Lots of ppl on here said that they like KYB struts a lot... do you have the 1.25" lowering springs or the 1.75 or whatever?

What should I get? They have to be sealed struts

Thanx!

I have the KYBs and they seem fine for a mild drop (I've put about 20K on the car in the last year and a half). The Eibachs drop the Camry about 1.2" front and rear, so it doesn't compress the struts too much. However, if you're going any lower than that, your only really option is the Tokicos...

I was actually on stock springs when i bought the KYBs, when i went to change, the rears were blown. About 9 months ago i contacted KYB about a replacement, and that was the last time they would take my calls or respond to emails. Needless to say, i no longer sell KYBs due to poor quality and lack of customer service.
