2015 XLE just out of warranty (38,500), so only right issues arise... I need confirmation on a door lock problem I've diagnosed and advice on cheapest way to resolve. Yes, I did a search within this 3rd gen forum for the issue - if you find a thread I missed on the topic, great, but I didn't see anything.
Description of problem
When I press lock on the fob or on the exterior door handle I get no audible beep or light flash. Further, only the passenger side doors are locking. Initially, the problem was sporadic and now it's every time I try to lock the vehicle. Further, it started with just the rear driver side door not locking/unlocking and now includes the driver's door as well. When I manually lock the driver side doors shut them and press lock on the fob/handle I do get the beep/flash. When I hit unlock after manually locking from the interior, the driver side doors do not unlock and I have to use the physical key to get in the car.
I've done some sleuthing on the interwebs and this seems to be a common Toyota (not just HL) problem? Does it sound like a lock actuator problem I have?
The Fix
Yeah, I could go to the dealer and pay them hundreds to fix or argue for some goodwill from Toyota, but I think I could pull my door panels and resolve faster than driving to dealer. Haven't done the fix because I'm not sure what it needs. Some threads for other vehicles indicate cleaning contacts on the actuator motor fixes, others just a $10 motor replacement, and of course full actuator replacement (eBay has remanufactured for ~$45). Anyone gone through this and have a suggestion for 3rd gen HL fix? I'm not afraid of tearing the actuator down and I've had all the door panels off before. Part #s?
Cheers
