Just compare the parts from the passenger side with the driver side and see what is bent or broken.

 

It's hard to see inside since the view is blocked by parts of the door.

Just take the door panel off. It's very easy. 10 minute job. Lots of youtube videos.

 

So I looked around, nothing seems different from my drivers side door. Or at least none of the stuff I can see looks different.

The actuator/motor is working or at least seems to be because it does attempt to lock and unlock and doesn't seem weak at all. However the lock returns to the same position after you press the lock/unlock buttons. Locking doesn't seem to make it go any lower, but unlocking does make it come up and then it goes back down.

What could they have broken?

 

Remove the door handle with the lock. Then you can inspect it closely. Probably related to one of the link rods. Bent in the wrong direction.

 

There's a plastic clip in the lock actuator that breaks over time. The rod coming from the exterior handle goes through the clip. The lock on the inner door handle is controlled by cable.
