Try loosening all bolts in order to insert the last one, that could help. OEM hitch uses 12 bolts and 2 nuts - there is a reason it costs more...

 

I tried that. It seems like one side is a bit bent. Hoping that 5/6 bolts is good enough for my road trip of 500 miles tomorrow. Will just have a cargo carrier attached with about 100lbs.

 

I installed Curt hitch C99FR, and I was also able to put 5 screws only. One hole was not aligned to the weldnut of the frame. I sent an email to etrailer to ask if it is safe to use the hitch receiver with 5 screws only.

 

Those are slotted to be moved side to side for proper fitment. Have you moved it right some yet?

Agreed. First time I heard the Curt having an issue. Make sure its all loose so you can adjust it left and right to get all the bolts in, then tighten it.

 

One side of my Curt was also bent, enough that I couldn't get a bolt in. According to e-trailer, this is common:

I put my hitch in a large vise and bent it back.

 

Thanks for the link, I need to uninstall and try the other steps to bent it back.
Presently it is installed with just 5 screws. Is it safe to use for a bike rack?
