Engine rpm stays high when accelerating -man trany

I have the V6 with the manual trany. When accelerating a bit harder and letting up the gas / pushing in the clutch the engine speed stays high(sometimes even rises when the clutch is pushed in) and it takes a few seconds for the rpm to come down to the level where the gears can be shifted to the next higher speed and the clutch can be released.

I am wondering if there is quick way to get the engine to release speed sooner. The trany certainly is capable of faster gear changing speeds. Any suggestions / pictures would be appreciated.

This has been discussed to death...Do a search. It's part of the emissions system and the short of it is NO it can't be changed...learn to deal with it, everybody else has.

This probably won't help but I thought I would throw it out.

I had a 2004 Mustang with what was called the "rpm's hang issue." It sounds like the same problem you are having. There is something called an idle air control valve that caused this on the mustang. A simple restrictor plate that took five minutes to bolt on got rid of the problem. I know this is Ford and not Toyota but maybe they use the same technique for emissions and it can be overridden in the same manner.

Here is info on the Ford product FWIW.
