Factory Alarm Question

Hi all, I have a factory alarm question. My car is a 2002 Corolla LE and although it has most options it did not come with the factory alarm system. I would like to install it if possible. My question is does anyone know if the wiring is there already and how complicated would it be to install this? Also where should I try to obtain it at? The dealer or is there another source?

And I want to publicly thank poster G-gazoo for helping me with info to install the factory fog lights, everything was just as he said, the wiring is there, and I sent for the parts he suggested. Just have to plug everything in this week. I look for any suggestions you guys have on the above question and thank you in advance!

There really isn't a factory Toyota alarm to speak of.

Dealerships install alarms on site for each vehicle they get from the manufacture. Then, sell the alarm with the car to the buyer. The only difference is if you buy it, they activate it and give you the remote. If you don't buy it, they don't activate it and don't give you the remote.

I would check underneath the dash for the alarm module. Should be on the driver's side near the fuse box. It should be obvious it doesn't look like it belongs there with the zip ties and wire crimps. Chances are it's there and it just needs to be activated with a remote.

My Car came new straight off the dealership lot with an aftermarket alarm. KARR brand.

Dealer will install an aftermarket alarm and warranty it against electrical issues. There is no such thing as a toyota alarm for these cars.

When you buy an alarm consider the following.
- how far away will you be using it as more range = more $$$$$
- some alarms come with remote starters and if you live up north like i do its nice to have.
- you cant change the fob whatever you pick and some are hideous huge things. So pick one you like.
- some alarms offer a two way system so it can call you when the alarm goes off or send you an alert. This does not work in a underground garage btw.
- your car does not require a bypass module so you can save a few bucks on the instilation.

I recomend you let a pro install this one there are many wires and its a pain to do. I think i paid $250 installed for my starter, alarm setup. Only regret i have is i didnt look into the remote trunk pop feature more but wish i had that. The only wiring present is for the door locks everything else has to be tapped into under your steering wheel and its quite a few wires.

There are actual Toyota-branded alarm systems, a whole line of them actually.
Following info is only for the Corolla.

From the 1990s to roughly 1995, there was TVSS, Toyota Vehicle Security System.
From 1996 to 2002, there was the Toyota VIP RS3000 (Vehicle Intrusion Protection).
From 2003 to 2008, there was the Toyota VIP RS3200.
From 2009 to 2013, there was the Toyota VIP RS3200 Plus.
From 2014 to right now, there is no alarm whatsoever. You might get lucky and have the factory Theft Deterrent System, but other than that you're out of luck if you want to add one.
