For those who are dealing w/overheating issues. You've replace just about everything (radiator, fans, thermostat, temp sensor, hoses, radiator cap, etc.) and still no solution. The following symptoms lead to me finding my culprit.

  • Overheats (even w/reservoir tank full)
  • When you remove the radiator cap (after car cools down), the coolant isn't at the top as it normally should be (instead it's a few inches below)
  • You don't see any leak on the floor
  • Turning on the heater when your car starts overheating doesn't help (temp still rises) cool down the car
  • No heat (or very low) when turning on the heater at full blast
  • Your praying it's not a blown head gasket

Your culprit will most likely be a bad water pump. When checking for leaks, you'll need to really take a look at the water pump and focus on the "peep" hole. You should notice a white and pink/red residue. I missed catching the leak several times because I wasn't thorough enough.

In order to drive your car until you are able to replace the water pump. Make sure you add coolant to the actual radiator. Even if your coolant reservoir is full. On the occasions I did not do this, my car overheated.

Honestly I was finally able to catch the leak when viewing it from above at an angle. To be exact, I remember standing in between the coolant reservoir and alternator. I leaned in and finally noticed the white/pink leak residue behind the alternator towards the bottom. If your looking at it straight up without leaning, the alternator will block your view or at least for me it did.

Hope this helps!
