Frame Problems - 1984 toyota 4x2

Hello, I am new to the site. I am also an owner of a 95 tercel dx, and a 92 corolla.

I gave word to pick up a truck that has some frame issues.
its a 1984 toyota efi 4x2 pick up
22r single cab, long box. . The body is in amazing shape. Its an original owner truck with 140,000kms or for the american folks in here, that is 87,500miles.
but there is one huge problem, the frame in the rear area is rotted to hell. I would first off want to know by visual inspection if it can be repaird, (but I don't think it can, seems like a lost cause). Next I would want to know what other toyota trucks (frames/chassis) can be compatible with my 1984 reg cab long box. I have attached some pictures below. I will be back to give more info on the truck. Also has anyone ever done an off body resto on this type of truck?
Thanks

Your friend from Canada.

P.S. I just don't want to see this truck bite the dust, the owner at the moment is selling it to me for a really good price and I cannot give it up. I want to save this poor truck from the melting factory.

Wow that frame is rotton. If it were myself I wouldnt try to repair or replace the rear section of this frame.

There should be some real good frames still around and it wouldnt de a hard deal to change over the cab and bed to another frame.

I have an 87 extra cab long bed 2wd and I always wash the under side after winter or mudding excersions. I just take my floor jack to the car wash and jack up the truck and wash it real good.

I wish my sheetmetal looked as good as yours.

I see you live in canada so when you find another frame you might consider powder coating it so that it wont rusy through again.

i see frames like that here, not toyota specifiically since none survivedhere cept virtually only mine, but my body is rotted out that frame is,

you sure thats an 84 ?

why does it not have wing vent glass doors ?

thats wierd

i thought all pre- 89 had wing vent glass doors like my 88 ext 4x2 does

interesting

nie body there, dont waste it, someone will jump on that ina heartbeat

try craiglist.org, free ads and you can upload pics on it and such

someone will take it for sure

i would if it were down here

good luck

Here’s a loooooong shot

Go to your nearest Toyota dealer and tell them to do an international search for the following part# for an entirely brand new frame (which ever applies to your truck)

51002-35191 (short bed reg cab) listed on 1sttoyotaparts.com at $745.47
51002-35301 (long bed reg cab) listed on 1sttoyotaparts.com at $945.48

I've gotten some VERY hard to find parts this way as well as some of the very last parts to exist on the earth for my 84 SR5 4X2

Thank you very much for the responces.

I should be picking up the truck later on this morning, friday november 10th.

I will try to get down to toyota and order that frame, hopefully is not tonns of money.

And for the chap near winnipeg, how much were they asking for the frames?

Also, what other model and year frames would be compatible for this application.

I am also 99.9% sure its a 1984.

Thanks!

i'll drop by tin man and general scrap and see what their asking, all you probably need to do is sand blast and paint it. but there must be a few scrap yards closer to ya, last time i made that trip it took us 2 1/2 days.

Wow that is some frame rot, with the motor and body in such good shape I would start calling salvage yards and I am thinking that 84-88 should swap over without issues. That frame is beyond repair. Its odd how the frame is so bad and the body so good.

if you dont have a grinder, welder and some other misc metal tools id go buy some, go to a scrap yard and look for the frame sections... if you have a u pull it or self service yard you could get a battery powered saw zall and cut it from the cab back.. the rest is a simple grafting process. you could get some cardboard and cut it to match the frame you have now and then use it as a stencil to cut out a new frame from some 3/16 steel. one template should be good because both sides are symetrical. the junm yard idea would be easy but the custom template would be a nice challenge and you could go alot farther into like doing a 4 link or something wild like that. not sure about ypur fabricating skills and motovation...

Thanks for the info, I have a welder saw and all that stuff, only thing is the welder is not that powerfull, does this matter? for the first part I just need to pass the safety to get the bloody thing on the road. I guess I could make a template and fab something up. It may be a real botchy job as it would be the first time I do this. So you believe the frame can be fixed?

absolutely.... and what kind of welder... a 110v 80 amp flux core or stick welder would be about the bare min but if its just a stick welder youve got alot of work ahead.. i hope you have a wire feed at least. if your not into fabricating the whole shibang.... get a battery powered sawzall or find a salvage yard who will sell you the back half of the frame.... just take lots and lots of measurments and just tack it in place to test fittment with the bed and such so it all lines up.

I have an ark to my dispossal, also 225 amp. I got grinders and stuff. When I start this project I will take the first pictures of me grinding or sand-blasting down the rear end of the truck:)

I can't seem to find a frame around here. but first I will take it to a welder to see what kinda quote he gives me.
