Front obstruction warning?

Does the Venza have an audible or visual obstruction warning that would activate when the car is nosing up to an object like a wall in a garage or another vehicle in a parking lot?

our Forester has that feature with the front camera and it’s very useful in certain situations but with the new Venza, I’m not sure if it has that same feature. Haven’t used the new car enough to learn all that it offers.

It’s misleading since it does have BSM, no parking assist with automatic braking but no mention of obstruction alert. You just can’t get a complete understanding by reading the chart with the various items, one needs to gig into the details.

Ill just put an empty trash pail in front of the car, pull up and see if there’s any detection🤓
No, LE would not detect. Ofcourse LE also has Radar and has couple of cameras for Lane Keep assist and Radar Cruise control. But those are not used for close front obstruction/object detection.

XLE has Ultrasonic Proximity Sensors, that makes sound as you get closer. Limited has additional wide angle camera in the front grill to provide 360 deg view.

But while driving on highway LE also has AEB, Pedestrian detection etc. LE also has rear cross traffic alert to warn if any other car is coming behind while in reverse, but does not brake. XLE and Limited does brake for rear cross Traffic.

I have LE, I park this on short side of the garage, and have to be extremely careful with minimal clearances. So I installed a front camera, new Auto-Dimming Home Link rearview mirror with Video in (From Tundra) with additional button. When I press that I get wide view of the front. I will post DIY later. I was waiting for some additional modifications so that it automatically turns on front camera based on proximity sensor, or probably based on speed.

Good post, very informative and I’m still happy I went with the LE since it has everything I need and most of what’s important to me. We live in a rural area so the parking assist and proximity sensors would be nice yo have but not needed that often. Our garage is also a little tight, so I will mark a line on the floor so I use the backup camera to position the car in the optimum spot to have maximum access all around the perimeter of the vehicle. Very clever of you to install a front camera, that great!

Thanks again for your post❗

No, LE does not have BSM w/park assist. Check list I provided again.

Do you have LE?

Please read the manual.
BSM is standard across all Venza models LE, XLE, Limited. This has been explained before. I don't know if people have comprehension problem. Read your manual, or even the feature comparison on the Toyota Website. If you cared to scroll down little more in that comparison on the Toyota Website, you would see that on LE.

Here is the picture, just I added both lines of features one after another so it is easy to Compare. LE has BSM, what it does not have is automatic cross traffic Braking.

Please don't spread wrong information.

Parking assist can actually be a bit annoying if you park in tight spaces.
My wife's seems to be extremely sensitive. It's not such a bad thing, but when she was getting used to the new car, all of the alarms going off when she was not familiar with the size and visibility added to her confusion and frustration.
Once she got used to it, she now uses the display on the cluster to help nudge in closer to bollards and such, but I think it starts to trigger when it's still 4 or 5 feet away.

And your TSS system does have automatic braking for pedestrians and other vehicles, but it is not reliable on fixed objects, such as if you were to drive into a bucket.
It seems to require some movement of the obstacle, either across your path, such as a pedestrian, or toward/away from you, such as another vehicle.
Every now and then, when merging into an adjacent lane, if I get too close to the vehicle ahead of me, it'll flash the warning... it will not automatically brake until a collision is imminent.

Like CarCareNut says... the purpose of the system is to reduce the severity of your injury if you do hit someone, not automatically drive the car.
