Hatchback cargo capacity with seats down

Hi! Does anyone know what the actual seats-folded cargo capacity is of the Corolla hatchback? I've read it's 17.8 cubic feet with the seats up, and no official number with the seats down.

Unofficially, I've read 23.3 with the seats down, but that can't possibly be accurate, can it? Only 5.5 more for that whole rear seat space?

I tried asking Toyota Canada but they were not helpful and just said they didn't know. It makes it really difficult to comparison shop.

Does anyone know the real number?

If you compare Toyota Yaris and new Corolla Hatchback, I would say that new Hatchback has a cargo area with back seats down around 45 cubic feet. This space includes everything up to the roof of the vehicle. This is an estimate of the space, it is based on info from Toyota Europe about Toyota Yaris. They state that car has 1119 liters of space with back seats down up to the roof. If you change it to cubic feet, you get 39.51 cubic feet.
The new Corolla Hatchback is a little bit larger that the Yaris, so I think that this is a fair estimate.

You can compare it to the Golf GTI, and you will see that they are about the same in size......The Golf has 22.8 cubic feet in space behind the rear seats and 52.7 cubic foot cargo hold with seats down. "Edmunds says that there is 16.5 cubic feet of luggage space behind the rear seats in the Golf. Removing the parcel/cargo cover increase that to 22.8 cubic feet......"
Check one GTI for yourself, and you will see that back cargo of the GTI does not look larger than new Corolla Hatchback.
I have no idea why Toyota gives only 23 cubic feet of space with back seats down. It is possible that they calculate the space to beginning of the windows, not the roof.....If this is the case, I would assume that space is around 45-46 cubic feet......

I had a 2016 GTI.
I can confirm that the Corolla HB seems to have the same "space" as the GTI. Unfortunately. The only thing that keeps both cars from being killer roadtrip cars. I felt the Corolla iM had better room, but the 1.8 engine kept us away.

Thanks everyone. It looks like the Corolla iM is 42 cubic feet.

It would make sense if it were an additional 23.3 with the seats folded. That would put it at around 41 which seems reasonable (but then I also read that the C-HR has 36 and that it had more than the Corolla, so who knows).

Maybe I'll just have to head down to the dealership with a tape measure. :D

Google says the 2018 Toyota Corolla iM has 20.8 Cubic Feet/ft3 of cargo space. However, it doesn't specify if that is w/the rear seats up or down. I'm going to assume w/the rear seats down. It infuriates me when the Official Manufacturer website doesn't list EVERYTHING there's to know about the autos they make! If anyone owns one of these cars and has this info. from a manual, please share. For some of us considering buying a used car like this one, this is important. Thanks! > On a different note, the cargo space of the 2019-2020 Toyota Corolla hatchback is practically "useless" 17.8/23/3 ft3 seats up/down (enough for a school backpack and a gym bag)...my 2003 Mazda Protege 5 has 19.8/38.2!!!

Better late than never! First off let me say that Toyota has created the world's dimensionally challenged midsize vehicle with the Corolla HB. So upon my calculations cargo area to the ceiling, not including the spare tire compartment is around 8 cubic feet. Im not including the tire compartment because it wasn't designed for cargo, its not open space. The backseats folded down and the front seats back all the way and the backing at almost vertical reveal 20 cubic feet. Very disappointing to learn all this out right... Not to mention that backseats only have 29.5 legroom(not sure if Toyota measures with the front seats all the back or not) but its more like 21 with Fseat almost all the way back, about 30 with it all the way forward and about 25 for a shorty to sit comfortable in the front.

2020 corolla sedan se has about 21.8 cu ft in the cargo area.

2018 yaris sedan has 18.8

When friend was able to put 4 folding tables and a couple of folding chairs in his Yaris and I could barely fit 2, both smaller than his, I had to figure it out.... Mind you the yaris and corolla sedan have more rear legroom as well...

Why incorrect information... Because they knew they screwed up and it was too late to turn back....

Same reason they my Corolla HB has showed up on the NHTSA recall site as a 2019 Toyota iM, a Corolla sedan and now it shows up as a Corolla hatchback, but with only one recall associated with that model....when in fact there is 5. When contacting NhTSA I was informed to talk to Toyota about it, they dont verify incorrect information like that because they receive it all from Toyota.... Toyota says its just a listing error and dont worry my car is clear of recalls.... In early Oct, check reveals recall for the fuel pump back in Jan, mind you nothing was revealed prior checks. So I wait for more postcard... Then in Nov, it says my car was added at the end of Oct..... Dealer correct the capacity rating also but it was never listed for that recall...... Never received email alert from NHTSA regarding the recall, although I opted in for it....

This is all appears similar to 2014 unintended acceleration cover. Toyota hired on NHTSA employees by grooming them during visits and then those now Toyota Employees convinced the investigators from the NHTSA to overlook the safety concerns and malfunctions... The turning point was a family of 4s 911 call pleading for help while their car over took the brakes with acceleration speeds >100 only ending when they crashed, the family parishes.

A bit a rambling yes, trust your judgement, if something smells fishy, its a good sign someones hiding some salmon with malicious intent.....

Yes, you were certainly rambling and posting a lot of misinformation...

Cargo space is customer satisfaction and not a safety related item that NHTSA would be interested in. If there is an error in the OM then you will just get an insert as an addendum from Toyota not NHTSA.

Comparing potential cargo space size inaccuracy to UA, really? And you may want to read up on facts about UA and the unfortunate case you referenced here with Lexus ES...

You managed to get it to fit? Desy post #6 of this thread has a pic of that same box sticking pretty far out of the hatch. Dimensions are super close though on these mobile boxes. I was looking hard at a 56" husky sizing it up to see if it would fit.

I just purchased a Traeger Pro 575 wifi from Home Depot and can confirm it fits perfectly in a 2022 hatchback. The box dimensions are 41x 23 x 26, has to be on its side, doesn't touch the back window, only have to move the passenger seat forward slightly.

Corolla hatch is smallest you can get a fwd naturally aspirated car with independent suspension (or iM). Other cars for reference. Surely if Toyota could sell a bunch of Yarises they would.
