So I've noticed as of late that my headlights will be on no matter what with the car unless the parking break was on before the car turned on. Even then they turn on as soon as the parking break is released.
I read through the other threads I could find on this issue and a lot point to the relay for the headlights. So I took that out and popped it open and used a variable power supply I have to put 12v across the coil. It clicked and functioned just like it should. So the relay is functioning properly. I ruled out the fuses as well for the individual headlights because that would turn them off, not force them on...which had happened once a long while back.
The ambient light sensor up on the dash appears to be functioning properly as well because the dash, tail lights, and front corner lights all turn on properly if the car is in the dark and turn back off if I drive into the light. Only the headlights stay on regardless.
The switch off the steering column is set to off and turns the other lights off and on properly when I change it from off to auto to on and back.
If anyone can think of what else to investigate I'd appreciate it. I was reading through the mechanic's manual on the subject and they don't have a section for headlights just being on all the time.
The car is a 99 Camry 4cyl with a 5SFE engine, California edition.
