Here's the problem(s), rear door stuck closed, large air intake leak via smoke test, pings when accelerating sometimes

1. Rear passenger door won't open 2. While checking for air intake leaks with smoke-found a ton of smoke coming from behind front exhaust manifold and small amount from throttle shaft 3. lower freq pinging under acceleration-sometimes.

#2 I'm currently working the smoke problem. I easily found the 2 rubber intake hoses leaking (replaced) and the single, larger diameter hose connecting to the air filter box is leaking as well but I don't know what that part is called or the part number. While looking for small leaks, a billow of smoke came out from behind the front bank exhaust manifold. This seems strange to me as I was blowing smoke thru the single large air intake hose mentioned above.
It was getting dark so I couldn't isolate the source of the smoke. But will go at it again tomorrow and take a pic and post it. Also there was a small trickle of smoke coming out around the throttle shaft-should I worry about that?

#1 I haven't found a good answer for the rear door being stuck closed. I can hear the actuator getting power. The only way to get into the door guts is from inside the car but the rear seat covers 1/2 the door panel so I don't see a way to get inside the door except by removing the rear seat and I haven't even examined how to do that. Any Hints!

#3 low freq. pinging. Occasionally, when entering traffic, or passing another car, you can hear the ping and it continues until I let up on the gas pedal. Other times, doing the same type of driving, there is no ping. I want to say it has something to do with the fuel mixture because of the intake air leaks, but I really don't know. According to the scan tool, there have been 0 misfires. I really need direction on this issue.

Let me know what info I need to provide. I do have 2 different scan tools, 1 is bi-directional.
Thanks to everyone for their help :)

What model year and trim level is your Avalon? Better yet, what is your VIN? That will help me answer your questions in #2.

The rear passenger door won't open: Is it locked? If not, have you tried both the exterior and the interior door handles to open it? If you are trying to unlock the door with the key fob (you said you can hear the actuator), why not unlock it manually with the lock button on the inside? Not sure I understand this one fully.

For #3, have you scanned your ECM for codes? If you can hear pinging, you should have a knock sensor code. Is your check engine light on?

The vin number is 4t1bf28b2yu060497
it’s a 2000 Avalon XL with 380,000 miles.

l’m sitting in the car, it’s 94 degrees but feels like 96, yes it’s Florida in the summer, so the car is unlocked and I try to open the stuck door by the outside handle 3 times, the handle comes up like normal but its still locked.
Went inside the car, used the silver open handle, wouldn’t open fully.
**Then tried the plastic lock/unlock switch near the silver handle and it would not change position either way, like whatever it connects to inside the door is jammed.

Is there a manual unlock switch under a piece of plastic that looks like a small flat head screw could pop that cover off?

About the pinging, I checked for codes and I only have a code stored for P0420, B0131.
**I never get a service engine light on the dash. I don’t know if the bulb is burned out, many of the bulbs are burned out but they are ones that stay on normal like the Drive light and the one that shows the miles driven. I hear taking the dash apart to replace all burned out bulbs, is difficult.

As of last night, it started showing the Air Bag error on the dash so I pulled the codes and the scanner showed B0131

no codes for pinging and for some reason it quit the pinging noise from the engine area when hard acceleration.

Door Stuck Closed

Your rear passenger door (RH side) doesn't open. Car is unlocked. You can hear the actuator getting power. What does this mean? Are you referring to the power door lock actuator?

You lift the outside handle, but nothing happens. Used the inside handle (silver color) and it wouldn't open fully. What do you mean "wouldn't open fully"? The door wouldn't open fully or the handle wouldn't move as much as the handle on the rear driver's side door?

**Then tried the plastic lock/unlock switch near the silver handle and it would not change position either way, like whatever it connects to inside the door is jammed. Can you provide a photo of this plastic lock/unlock switch? I'm not aware of such a switch. There is a power window switch on the rear passenger door. But I'm not aware of a plastic lock/unlock switch near the silver handle.

Sorry for all the questions, but need clarity.
