Hello Highlander lovers, I am quite excited to welcome my Highlander 2023 Platinum which could be in another few months depending on wait times.
I used to have Honda CRV Touring which was stolen this year in July that too from very busy place Costco parking lot in Canada. I guess it was quite easy due to all softwares which are built to override manufactures program. Honda, Toyota, Lexus, Range Rovers are more vulnerable to car thefts in North America.

Now to not be in same situation again and loosing my mental peace, i am looking to install some anti-theft devices or kind of engine immobilzer to protect or safegurad my car from car theft.
I know for the fact there is Engine Immobilizer Anti-Theft System in highlander however i am not sure how effective this would be.

I really appreciate any of your recommendation on this which would be of real help to me and others who may be in same situation.

Thanking you in advance. :)

Where are you located? Canada is quite wide you know...

Protégez votre véhicule | Tag Tracking | Montréal, Québec offers protection in Montreal/Québec area, but I know they recently expanded their operation to Ontario. I mean they expanded the number of location where you can get the system installed. They cover technically everywhere you can go with the car (they did some recovery in Florida...) but you get better service if you are technically close to their normal operation area...

Thank you JF. Definitely will learn more about this. However I had Sherlock installed in my previous car from Montreal but it doesn’t helps much. Called them after my car was stolen and they never responded.

If you have a closer look at the Toyota Highlanders that are being stolen in Canada you would notice that is all the previous generation models, from 2019 and lower. Either way if someone wants your vechicle they will steal it. But you can do some basic protections that would deteir the amatures from stealing your vehicle.

1. Put your keys into a IRFD (sp?) blocker every night.
2. Buy an ODB locker (these are expensive)
and I am sure there are others you can do other than make sure your driveway is well lit at night and you have good outdoor security camera system.
Thank you point 1 and 2

We're already seeing 2020+ models being stolen:

They are stealing 2020+ in Canada at the moment. They are disabling and removing the dcm in the centre console as it has a backup battery to send location even with 12v battery diaconnected inside a container.
We had a clown rip out an air conditioning blend door actuator thinking it was the dcm ecu and now it needs to have whole dash removed to replace air conditioning box behind.
This is getting out of hand. We have a guy at work loose 2 CRVs to theft
I have friends and colleguea have everything from Range Rovers to Wranglers stolen.
They cant take mine but they can brake my door handle and acratch my door trying to get in and then leave it behind.

These things are really bothering that’s the reason I posted in this forum to get solution on how we can safeguard at least the best we can do from our end.
What have you installed in your car..? Would you like to give more details?

My view of peaceful, safe and pleasant Canada are deteriorating. Sorry.

Maybe it is just large cities? Seems to be a problem in the NYC area as well. Glad I live in the relative boonies!
It’s all over Canada

I personally owe a Highlander hybrid Platinum

*1. Install a kill switch ( I have 2 installed, different areas ) *
2. Use a Faraday RFID box for storing your keys.
3. Put a tracker in your car.
4 ALWAYS use a lock on your steering wheel. ( Club )

I have followed these four recommendations from this Toyota dealer.

Using a Blocking Pouch. A blocking pouch prevents remote access to your key fob. The fob's radio frequency is isolated, and transmission of the frequency is prevented thanks to the pouch's metallic lining. These simple, small, and cheap pouches fit most key fobs.
Turning off Keyless Entry. The wireless signal transmitted by your key fob can be manually turned off, eliminating the ability of thieves to intercept the signal.
Putting on a Steering Wheel Lock. Thieves planning to rely on digital tools to steal your vehicle now face a physical obstacle when a steering wheel lock is in place.
Engaging a Vehicle Wheel Clamp. Another physical barrier anti-theft device, a tire clamp or boot means that thieves literally cannot move your vehicle to steal it.

They did not recommend a tracker, an ODP lock nor an IGLA. I have asked for an answer.

I wouldn't bother with a wheel lock; maybe the DiskLok but the bar-types are easily defeated.

If I lived in Toronto or anywhere with high theft rate for Highlanders, I'd definitely buy a wheel boot or two. Hell, buy all four :ROFLMAO:
