How do you play music files from a USB Stick?

Page 212 of the Navigation manual starts a section that describes how to use the car audio system to play music from a USB Stick. However, whenever I plug-in a USB stick with MP4 music files the car recognizes the USB stick, but not the music files. It displays the message "No music files found."

Does anyone know what I am doing wrong and/or how to make this work?

I'd like to tack on to this post. I've tried too with no success. Except my car doesn't even recognize the USB drive. I've tried a couple different drives - 2.0 and 3.0 (both SanDisk), formatting in NTFS and FAT32, and just putting the files in the drive with no sub directories. Nothing worked.

EDIT: And I have a 2014 Avalon Premium.

I have a 2013 Avalon Limited V6, and playing music from a USB stick is straightforward -- I insert the stick in the USB port and then choose USB using the Mode button on the left side of the steering wheel. Music begins playing immediately and I can then navigate through the folders and selections using the arrow keys and Enter button on the steering wheel audio control on the left side of the wheel.

I used a USB stick with several dozen MP3 files of operatic arias, in two folders, that a friend gave me. I wonder if the problem may be that you are using MP4 files -- I did find an online brochure for Entune that states you can play MP3 files through USB without mentioning other formats, so that may be the reason your files aren't recognized. Try some MP3s if you have any.

Doesnt seem that straightforward on my 2014. Oh well. iPod works fine though

added a few songs last weekend.
About 42G filled 64G chip.

All work fine and they are MP3.

Only complaint is that the center screen is touch screen. Why can't they program the folders icons. and provide a drop down to the full list on the chip. Or let user sort by folder or song name, etc.

I have to roll sequentially through the whole list. Currently alphabetical.
I can start voice command and jump to play artist, but the recognition is spotty.
Anyone have other suggestions to sort?

Probably less than 5 bucks for a 4 or 8 GB stick at Staples/Office Depot or anywhere.
I have at least three in various devices in the house. They were giving away a 2 GB stick at the local building/hardware store for their holiday sale.

This $5 is a cheap way to try another stick. Ask the neighbor if they have an old one laying around.

I have made three different ones and just copied the MP3 files directly to the chip and never checked the format. I think they all come Fat32 anymore.

I do have folders but before I converted the files, the car was able to find songs on the drive. I did have some mp3s so figured the car was only seeing those files.

I am using about 45gb out of the 64gb and know that exfat can be a problem for some usb readers. However anything over 32gb must be in exfat format since fat32 was only designed to address memory under that amount. Some readers will report exfat as fat32 and be fine with it, others may not. However, according to the above posts, that doesn't seem to be the issue.

The thing is my 5 year old Mustang could read the drive without an issue. So for a brand new car to have a simple issue like this is kind of odd. Other than this small issue, I love the car.

I'll try moving the files all into the root folder, but it seems silly. The flash drive helps me keep my data usage down since I don't have to stream my music or use Milk or Pandora.

Yes we've discussed this in some of the other threads. Bluetooth audio also sounds on par with the usb and cd. Sirius must be compressing and crushing the signal to fit into their allocated bandwidth. They simply offer too many channels to also provide a quality audio signal or just don't want to truly offer cd quality music. I remember them advertising near cd quality. Honestly it sounds more like AM music to me. And it's not just the Avalon. My Mustang and Abarth have the same exact issue.
