How far have you gone once your gas light turns on. I have driven an additional 16 miles before filling up and was just wondering how far people can go once the light comes on

You've got plenty of distance left, as those other threads show, but just so you know, i've pushed it too hard myself thinking i was getting a little better mileage than i was and ran out of gas, luckily i was just leaving a store right next to a gas station, literally pulling out of the drive-way, so all my friends and i had to do was push my truck into the next drive-way.

HAHAH everytime my light comes on. I know i have 3 to 4 gallons left. When ever i feel up i have 330 miles on the odometer and i feel up with 18gallons. so i say probably 50 miles after the light comes on of course depening on how you drive.

Who do you "feel" up at 330 miles?;)

So when you feel yourself up, that's when you know you have 330 miles? You've felt up 18 gallons before? sounds sexy :whatwhat:

Once the light comes on I usally fill up. The most I ever went was 7 miles after the light went on. The maximum gallons that I've put in has been 17.5 gallons. I don't wan't to push it since i was told that running low on fuel to a point where you're almost empty or even running out of gas would foul up your injectors.

I haven`t gone "too far" yet but I`ve gotten close
oh wait, you were talking about gas right
I put in 19 gallons once that was close enough for me, did like 30 miles with the light on.

I had a real bad experience with those stupid "time to get more gas" lights so I usually fill it up way before it has a chance to come on. The car I was driving went a bunch of miles after the light came on so I started running it down `till the light came on then got gas
-BUT- one time the light came on and I ran out of gas 10 seconds later

I havent pushed it that hard...maybe 35 miles after the light turns on....my friend always fills up his tank when it gets 3/4 empty because he says that when your tank is low your engine is sucking up all that gunk in the fuel tank. just FYI ...but whatever i keep chugging along the highway until i find the cheapest gas station.

The most i put in the tank was 20 gallons, but i was driving over to our rental house to do yard work and had 2 gallons in a gas can in the back.

I reset the trip odometer with 515 miles on it, by the way I have the 2.7L

I wouldn't know. I always fill up when I am at a half a tank. Been doing that for a while now, and it actually seems to give me a little better MPG.
I do the same. Parents had bad experiance with waiting until your runnin on fumes, don't want to end up in the same boat as them, haha.

Drove to the Brickyard 400 last weekend...but not in my tacoma. We took my buddy's Ford Expedition. It gets about 17mpg and we got all the way there on a full tank. The drive is around 400 miles. I filled his tank when we got there and gas in Indianapolis was $3.17. The pump shut off at $75 and it wasn't all the way full. On the way home it died on the freeway at 70mph, with the gas gauge showing 1/8 tank left and the computer saying 44 miles to empty. Luckily it started again and there was a station right there...
