I have 203K; I change the oil every 5K miles.

 

2000 XLS 117,000 miles. oil has been changed every 3,000 miles since new.

 

I have 2 2001 XLS, one at 180K one at 170K. I do mine every 3k.

 

185K miles. Oil changed approx every 5K since new.

 

Use full synthetic change every 5k.

 

Whats the benefit vs. conventional every 3K?

I've made it to 153,000 miles just fine doing full synthetic every 5,000.

 

I have 90,000 miles on my car I change my oil At 3,000 miles

 

2000 XLS w/105k miles. I just bought it May of this year. Original owner ALWAYS used only 100% pure synthetic but I don't know for sure at what intervals. He said ever 3k when I bought the car. Being that it's only ever seen synthetic since new I plan to do it every 5k.

Right now it's due for one within 300 miles and looks to be down 1/2 quart.

 

2004 with 135k. Had it since new. Amsoil high mileage synthetic is a one year or 25k change. It's all I've ever used and it doesn't use any oil or never had any engine related problems changing it once a year and using the filter Amsoil recommends. I know it is a little untraditional but I have also done that with a 2001Chevy truck (original owner since new) and Nissan Altima and neither has had any engine related problems.

This has piqued my interest...I just got my Avalon and plan on changing the oil next weekend.

 

If you are changing from conventional to synthetic, it is important to clean/prep the engine. Amsoil suggests an engine cleaner that you add just before changing the oil and adding synthetic. And no, I am not an Amsoil dealer or owner. I just think that it saves time money and the environment not the mention gas, to use an infrequent oil change.

There is absolutely no need to do any sort of engine flush gong to synethic oil. Thats Amsoil's way to make $

 

Agree. No need for flushes. They're pointless and could possibly damage your engine due to sludge breaking off and clogging an oil line or pump causing oil starvation.

 

2003 Avalon XLS - owned since new - 147K miles. Oil changed every 5k.

I had an engine oil analysis done @ 142K and the lab was like "Your engine is wearing exceedingly well" - They said I could go 7,000 miles between changes.. But I am keeping it at 5k because it is an easier #.

 

7500-mile OCI since this motor is pretty easy on the oil and mostly driven on the highway. No oil consumption issues.

I use an over sized oil filter and replace it every three oil changes (if it's a Fram XG, Purolator Syn/P1, NAPA Platinum, or RP).

 

Mostly agree. A quality 100% synthetic oil such as Mobil 1 EP can easily go for 8K miles in this engine, which runs quite cleanly and has very low oil consumption. (Oil sample tests show everything is still peachy at 8K miles with M1 EP.) I also use the larger/high quality filter (Purolator Gold 20195) though for extra filtration and synthetic filter media. Oddly enough, they only cost about $6 from Amazon. But I change that out at 8K miles just to be on the safe side.

Personally, I'd rather buy a quality synthetic that has no sludge worries and halve the time and mess spent changing oil. Probably just as cheap or cheaper than using basic dino 5W30 oil.

The mileage leader on the subforum has 500k+ on his. So yes.

 

229000 and runs like a new car still just bought it a month ago. Any ideas on a good oil to use and do I have to use midgrade gas it is eating my gas fast.

 

Change every 15000 miles Amsoil. Filter every 3k. Same with every car/truck I have owned the last 25 years. usually sell them around 250K including the turbo diesel chevy trucks.
