How to Adjust OEM Roof Rack Cross Bars?

Does anyone know how to adjust or remove the cross bars on the OEM TRD Pro roof rack?

I tried to hand twist the knobs to unlock it but it's on their pretty tight. Not sure if I need to use a wrench/pliers to unscrew the mounts holding down the cross bars.

I just installed this on my 4-runner last night. Use a pair of pliers with a rag on the knob (so you don't damage it). loosen the inner knobs, and remove the outside 2 knobs. Be careful when re-installing, since there is a left and right (the outside piece). There is a left and right, and they only work on the correct side.
